Latest recruiting intel on top 2024 prospects entering the first weekend in August

While we are experiencing somewhat of a lull in the recruiting process, visits are starting to be set. September, things will pick back up as students are on campus and football games are being played. We are currently seeing some commitment dates set along with a lot of visit dates.

There is always a lot of movement during this time, and as we continue to progress through visits season, boards change for colleges as well as timelines for the prospects. What is real today could change in an hour.

Let’s go through the recruiting intel and discuss where things stand for some of the top players in the 2024 class as we head into visit season.

Recent Recruiting Intel Pieces: 2024 No. 1 Dylan Harper | The latest recruiting intel on top 2024 prospects (7/31) | The latest recruiting intel on top 2024 prospects (7/23) | 2025 No. 1 Cooper Flagg | 2024 four-star SG Kon Knueppel

Five-star plus+ SG Tre Johnson

The buzz: Tre Johnson is a top-five prospect across the recruiting industry. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard transferred to Branson (MO) Link Academy this summer after winning a Texas state championship last season at Dallas (TX) Lake Highlands. Johnson has taken official visits to Baylor, Texas, Kansas, and Kentucky. He has a future official visit set with Alabama. More than one source has consistently maintained to watch Baylor here. That is where his dad was recruited and started his college playing career. That said, Texas head coach Rodney Terry, who was at Baylor at the time, was the coach who recruited Johnson’s dad to the Bears. One source told me Texas has confidence. Kentucky and John Calipari is another program I have heard. Watch the Alabama visits and if he goes on any more campuses.

Four-star PF Nic Codie

The buzz: Nic Codie, a 6-foot-9 forward, came in at No. 38 in the recent 2024 On3 150 update. The Carrolton (TX) Newman Smith four-star has scheduled seven upcoming visits. Starting on September 1 at TCU, he will visit Virginia Tech, Texas, LSU, Houston, Miami, and Auburn. One source said to watch for Houston heading into the visits. Watch to see if Codie takes all seven visits. The current plan is to sign early.

Four-star CG Jaeden Mustaf

The buzz: Jaeden Mustaf had a big year at Matthews (NC) Carmel Christian this year, winning a North Carolina state championship. The 6-foot-5 guard, who finished top ten (18.6) in regular season scoring on Nike’s EYBL Circuit, shot up to No. 44 in the recent 2024 On3 150 update. Mustaf transferred to Atlanta (GA) Overtime Elite this summer. Earlier this week, Mustaf issued a top six. NC State, Maryland, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, and Florida State were on the list. One source told me to watch Georgia Tech here. He has already officially visited NC State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Indiana. He is set to visit Maryland, where his father played, on September 1. Mustaf set a September 14 commitment date.

Four-star SF Marcus Allen

The buzz: Marcus Allen transferred back to his original Miami (FL) Norland High this summer after spending a season at Chandler (AZ) AZ Compass. The 6-foot-6 small forward has a top six that includes Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Stanford, Ohio State, and Arkansas. Allen has taken official visits to Miami, Stanford, and Missouri. One source told me that Missouri and Miami are the two schools to watch here, with Missouri holding a slight lead as of pressing publish on this piece. Allen will commit on August 7.

Four-star SF Tyler Betsey

The buzz: Tyler Betsey is the No. 31 player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-8 forward fits into the three-and-D archetype of a player. He has taken three official visits, Creighton, Indiana, and UConn. One source told me recently to watch for UConn carrying the momentum here. Betsey has talked about taking other official visits, namely to Alabama and Cincinnati. Continue to watch if any other programs can get him on campus.

Four-star PG Labaron Philon

The buzz: In April, four-star point guard Labaron Philon de-committed from Auburn. The Mobile, Alabama native had been committed to the Tigers since February. Philon averaged 12.8 points and 4.5 assists during Nike EYBL’s regular season. The 6-foot-4 guard announced this summer he is transferring to Branson (MO) Link Academy for his senior season. Philon has an upcoming official visit set with Ole Miss. New Ole Miss assistant Wes Flannigan was Philon’s recruiter at Auburn. One source told me to watch Chris Beard here. Another program to monitor is Alabama. Watch to see which campuses he gets on.

Four-star PF Garrett Sundra

The buzz: Garrett Sundra is a 6-foot-11 power forward/center at Fairfax (VA) Paul VI. In June, he issued a top five that included Virginia Tech, Miami, Butler, Notre Dame, and Providence. Sundra previously visited Butler officially. He took his second official visit to Notre Dame this weekend. Coming out of that visit, intel suggests Notre Dame is carrying confidence. Watch to see when he sets his commitment date.

Four-star SG Mikey Lewis

The buzz: Mikey Lewis led Nike’s Peach Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.) in scoring at 23.7 points during Peach Jam Week. The 6-foot-2 guard also announced he would be transferring to Napa (CA) Prolific Prep for his senior season. Lewis, the No. 60 player in the 2024 On3 150, named a top six schools last week, Kansas, Ole Miss, San Diego State, LSU, St. Mary’s, and Illinois made the cut. Lewis has taken one official visit to St. Mary’s. So far, he has set upcoming September dates with LSU and Illinois. Heading into visits, one source told me these are the three schools to watch, with LSU and Illinois as the main contenders. Watch to see if any further visits are made and when a commitment date comes.

Three-star PF Josiah Moseley

The buzz: Josiah Moseley has had a big last couple of months, adding over a dozen offers since May. Heading into visit season, one source told me to watch for Texas for the Round Rock (TX) Stony Brook High forward. His dad is from Southern California, and one source said to watch how USC moves since the offer. Watch to see which programs get him on campus.

The Bewley twins

The buzz: Former five-star forwards Matthew Bewley and Ryan Bewley were two of the first players to sign with Atlanta (GA) Overtime Elite in 2021. The 6-foot-9 twins played two years with the OTE program. Sources have told me the pair are going through the process of applying to the NCAA to become college eligible. While not quite there yet, this could be a situation to tuck away and monitor. The two are originally from Florida.
