Mike Norvell says his team’s health is really good

Florida State will come into this season with high expectations for success. That’s why, coming into fall camp, Mike Norvell’s health update is a very positive one considering it doesn’t seem like it’ll be much of an issue.
Norvell spoke on the health of the Seminoles coming into camp at a press conference this week. While they had some players miss time back in the spring, they’ve done what they’ve needed to over the summer to the point where Norvell says FSU is, for the most part, good to go on that front.
“It’s been really good,” Norvell said. “We had some guys that were unavailable in the spring that I think have done a great job putting themselves in the position to be ready for summer, summer training. We feel like we’re going to have the vast majority of our guys that are going to be ready to go.”
However, they’re not at a full 100%, though. With that in mind, Norvell said that they’ll pull back the reins on a case-by-case basis in order to get everyone to be as healthy as possible for their first kickoff of the year.
“You’ll hear, starting tomorrow, there are still some guys that are working in return to play protocols. We have full expectations of them being 100% come game one. But we want to make sure that we build them through the process to where they’re going,” explained Norvell. “We’re going to intentionally, probably, restrict some guys from certain things, even maybe here early in fall camp, just because their return to play protocol might stretch in a little bit more.”
Still, this is the position that you want your team to be in coming into the year. With injuries currently being a non-factor in Tallahassee, Norvell credits his staff and players for giving Florida State the best chance possible with mostly everyone both healthy and available.
“I think the health of our team is in a really good place. It’s a tribute to Josh Chapman, our athletic training staff, and to our players and what they’ve done,” said Norvell. “We’ve got a great sports medicine team. Some guys have had offseason issues that had to be resolved and rehabbed through. They’ve done a great job in it and had a great summer work of training.”
Norvell says realignment talk is ‘for the outside’
Florida State could be the first domino to fall within the ACC as talks of conference realignment ramp up for the Seminoles.
Mike Norvell is trying to shut out any outside noise as his team prepares for the season. Moreover, he praised the conference for what they’ve done for his program, and all of the success Florida State has had within the conference.
“Obviously, we’re excited about the opportunity that we have this season and with this team. That is our focus,” Norvell said on Monday. “We have an incredible brand. We have an incredible program, university to represent the in all the things that we do. We’ve got a great relationship with the ACC and what our program has been able to accomplish in the ACC.
“That is our sole focus when it comes to our football program. What we’re doing is to just go be our best. But, ultimately, there’s always going to be outside conversation. That’s for the outside. For us, we’re locked in and focused on what we have ahead. Just grateful for where we are and what we get to represent.”
