‘Huge blessing’: 2025 DL Carius Curne opens up on Georgia

‘Huge blessing’: 2025 DL Carius Curne opens up on Georgia

Some teams consider Carius Curne an offensive tackle.

Georgia, however, had other plans in mind after seeing him in action recently.

“First, we did the testing, then we had a little break before doing agility drills. After that, we went with our position groups and did individual work,” Curne said. “Coach [Tray] Scott was coaching us up and running us through what he does with the defensive line. We finished up with one-on-ones.”

The Bulldogs’ defensive line coach took a shine to Curne for the performance, and the feeling from the rising junior was certainly mutual.

“He’s a great teacher,” Curne said of Scott. “He’s very detailed and connected naturally with us. He’s genuine and seems really down to earth. He’s an Arkansas guy like me, so I felt like we already knew each other.”

Working with Scott was only part of the Arkansas-based big man’s day in the Classic City, however.

“It was really good. I felt like they made the most of the time and we got a lot of work in,” Curne said. “After the camp, we did a facility tour. The facility is amazing. It’s definitely the biggest one I’ve seen so far, and everything is laid out perfectly for their players.”

While soaking in the offerings of the Dawgs, Curne received the news he’d been hoping for all along.

“Coach Scott pulled me aside during the tour and offered me. He just said he liked how I worked today,” Curne said. “It was awesome. I was pumped and immediately went and told Coach Tribble, my coach who brought me.”

It’s an opportunity he won’t forget anytime soon.

“(They’re) elite, just like Coach [Kirby] Smart says,” Curne said. “It’s a special offer for sure. They have been the standard in college football for the past couple of years. To get offered by them is a huge blessing. I definitely want to get to a game this year.”

If he’s able to make that trip or any other this fall, the emerging star is clear on what he’ll be seeking from a home at the next level.

“I know I want to play for coaches who are going to push me in every facet of life, coaches who will be invested in my life on and off the field,” Curne said. “That’s definitely my top priority, and I want to compete for championships.”

Carius Curne is a 6-foot-5, 288-pound lineman from Marion, Arkansas.
