3-2-1: Could Kansas State and the Big 12 welcome in a new member?

3-2-1: Could Kansas State and the Big 12 welcome in a new member?

It is time for the Kansas State edition of the 3-2-1 feature.

THREE THINGS WE LEARNED ABOUT KANSAS STATE

1. New Kansas State hire: In response to Kevin Sutton leaving Manhattan, Jerome Tang and K-State have hired Frank Miskelly as the new Director of Video and Analytics. That was a title that was originally held by staffer Anthony Winchester, who was already promoted soon after the 2022-2023 season. Miskelly was previously a graduate assistant at Mississippi State.

2. Visits: The Wildcats hosted several football visitors in the final week of July, notably top targets in Michael Boganowski and Grant Brix. Kansas State has chased both for a considerable amount of time already. In addition to those prospects, Chris Klieman and company also hosted some of the state’s best in the 2025 cycle, particularly the No. 1 player in Kansas in Jayden Woods. The Wildcats hope to benefit from another loaded recruiting class at home.

3. Colorado: Conference realignment struck again in July, and it was in favor of the Big 12. K-State will once again be conference members with Colorado. The Buffaloes voted unanimously in favor of departing the Pac-12 for the Big 12.

TWO QUESTIONS

1. Schedule: According to those with knowledge, the Kansas State basketball schedule has been completed. They were awaiting one final non-conference contest to be finalized. Though they were hopeful for another high-profile matchup, sources have shared that the Wildcats had to settle for another mid-major. Will we see the schedule this week?

2. Spots: K-State is also in search of two more players for the roster. They sit at 11 scholarship players at the moment. KSO was told that they kicked the tires on a transfer from New Mexico State before discovering that the baggage was too much. If Paul Mulcahy did indeed leave Washington and become available again, as rumors suggest, Kansas State would be mightily interested.

The Arizona Board of Regents immediately convened into executive session. No public discussion. All private. They will adjourn at the end of executive session.

ONE K-STATE PREDICTION

1. Arizona: Could there be two sets of Wildcats in the Big 12? From everything I have gathered, the pendulum has swung heavily in the direction of K-State and Arizona being future league foes in the Big 12. They may not want to be saddled with “collapsing the Pac-12” and the perception that comes with that, but they are on the verge of realizing that their existence within that conference is no longer tenable when better alternative options exist. By the way, they wouldn’t be the one tearing apart the Pac-12, which has become the trendy thing to say. That was done the minute USC and UCLA bolted for the Big Ten.
