4-star RB Deondrae Riden recaps SMU visit

2025 DeSoto (Tex.) running back Deondre Riden, Jr. is fresh off an SMU visit for the Triple D Cookout on Thursday. The Mustangs made a great impression on the four-star prospect and lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

“It was great. Always a good time being around the staff,” Riden told On3. “Being around the staff and building a strong relationship with them is what I liked.”

SMU running backs coach Khenon Hall is doing a strong job recruiting him and the role he has in mind for him stands out as well.

“He asked how I’ve been and things like that. Saying they building something special. We really was just talking about life,” Riden said. “SMU runs inside zone and outside zone and allows running backs to catch passes. I will fit perfect.”

SMU’s overall trajectory is on the right path and Riden sees big things happening this season.

“Overall I think highly of SMU,” Riden said. “SMU is going to shock a lot of people this season and I can’t wait.”

Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Oregon, and many more are those that Riden listed as coming after him. Ole Miss hosted him for Juice Fest on Friday as well.

Riden, who rushed for 1,350 yards and 18 touchdowns as a sophomore on 199 carries (6.8 YPC), checks in as the No. 26-rated player from the state of Texas in next year’s recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s the No. 148 overall prospect and No. 11 running back in the nation.
