How some now-former Ole Miss Rebels are faring at their new schools

How some now-former Ole Miss Rebels are faring at their new schools

Some more talented people that moi, of which there are gazillions, noodle around on a guitar, for instance.

When you are in my business, you “noodle” around on the internet.

Out of curiosity, my noodling took me to checking on former Rebels off the 2022 squad who transferred out to try their hand elsewhere.

Quarterback Luke Altmyer, who was beaten out by Jaxson Dart last year after a long competition, is currently at Illinois.

After going through a spring training is listed as the number one quarterback for the Illini.

Altmyer and Tight End Casey Kelly were the only significant offensive transfers. Kelly caught 3 passes for 17 yards as a Rebel last season and transferred to Oregon in the offseason. We are not sure if he went through spring drills with the Ducks or not, but Kelly is currently listed as the number four tight end on their roster.

On the defensive side of the ledger, Linebacker Austin Keys, who had 39 tackles and two quarterback sacks a year ago in an injury-plagued season, is listed as the number one middle linebacker at Auburn.

Also finding depth chart success off the Rebel defense is Safety Tysheem Johnson.

Johnson was third on the team last year with 78 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss. He is currently listed as the number one free safety at Oregon, where he joins Kelly on the Ducks’ roster.

Defensive Tackle Isaiah Iton, who tallied seven tackles for the Rebels, took his talents to Rutgers and apparently he has already made an impression as he is listed as the number one left defensive tackle for the Scarlet Knights.

Safety M.J. Daniels, who played sparingly last season for Ole Miss, went South to Southern Mississippi and he made a mark in spring drills as well, landing the number one spot as the nickel back in a 3-2-6 defense.

The rest have not fared as well in terms of being penciled in as starters after spring.

Cornerback Davison Igbinosun had 37 tackles and five pass breakups as a true freshman for Ole Miss last year.

He transferred to Ohio State and is currently listed as the number two free safety for the Buckeyes. Defensive Lineman Tywone Malone also transferred to Ohio State. He’s listed as the backup nose tackle on the Buckeye depth chart.

Defensive End Demon Clowney, who had limited playing time last year, is now the number two left defensive end at Charlotte.

Cornerback Miles Battle had 38 tackles and 11 pass breakups a year ago at Ole Miss. He’s currently listed as a number three corner for Utah. Either the Utes are loaded at CB or Miles did not go through spring training.

Defensive End Brandon Mack transferred to Houston. However, he isn’t listed on the Cougars’ depth chart.

There were a few more, but I was not able to noodle any information on them at this time.

Sometimes noodling around in the world wide web can produce nothing but wasted time, but for once, we dug up some facts that might interest some Rebs.

If not, kindly disregard.
