Comprehensive recap: Top prospects react after Miami Hurricanes recruit BBQ event

The Miami Hurricanes held their final recruiting event of the summer, with the dead period hitting. The Saturday morning camp/afternoon barbecue and pool party was an all-day event drew numerous top prospects, including commitments. Your recap with many of the top players on hand and what they were saying:

3-STAR QB COMMIT JUDD ANDERSON

Anderson made the trip down from Georgia.

“It was good to get around the other recruits and the coaches. That’s the biggest thing. We have a really strong class.”

Anderson said he and coordinator Shannon Dawson also talked about some technique aspects on film and that “It was cool to be around him again, and coach (Mario) Cristobal. Getting around all those coaches, that was really special. (Dawson) helped me really understand where my development is headed.”

Oh, and Anderson was the second guy to go off the high board at the pool party.

“I never jumped from that high before, just went for it,” Anderson said. “I did it four times, it was fun.”

4-STAR DL KAMARION FRANKLIN

This high priority target was back on campus for the recruit barbecue, the third time in the last two months he’s been at Miami. The Lake Cormorant (Miss.) 4-star said the people at Miami are what make the difference for him. “The people, the environment, the coaching staff, everything here is nice. I enjoy being here. I’ve been coming here a lot. It’s pretty cool.” We caught up with him for an in-depth interview, so be sure to check that out.

QB commit Judd Anderson also spent some time talking with/recruiting Franklin.

“Big Kam – I think the message is pretty clear there,” Franklin said. “I think it’s good where that is headed.”

2026 ATH/WR JEFFAR JEAN-NOEL

Noel is very early in his recruitment but has a bright future at Plantation American Heritage, and he was on hand today.

Noel has offers from Wisconsin, FAU, USF, UCF and Western Michigan so far but after today says regarding a Miami offer that “I know it’s coming.”

He says overall that the experience on campus “was great.”

“I got great coaching advice as well as on the field and off the field life lessons from coach KB (Kevin Beard),” Jean-Noel said. “Wonderful hospitality.”

If Miami does offer?

“They would fit in the picture great because it’s like playing in my own backyard,” Jean-Noel said. “I grew up watching them, and my family are huge UM fans.”

3-STAR DB COMMIT RYAN MACK

The Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High commit says that for him today was all about “Getting to bond with my future coaches and teammates.”

Mission accomplished.

“I think it’s important for teams to feel like a family and the cookout helped me get more familiar,” Mack said. “I spoke to Coach Cristobal about making the most out of my upcoming senior season and balancing hard work and fun – his insight was helpful.”

4-STAR ATH/FSU COMMIT LAWAYNE MCCOY

This Florida State commitment out of Miami Central has the Hurricanes hot on his trail.

And Miami made a good impression on him during the visit.

“I had a very good time,” McCoy told CaneSport. “(I was) bonding with other recruits but my favorite part was when me and coach KB (Kevin Beard) were at the top (high board) jumping off into the pool. The thing is he told me to jump first so I could give him the guts to jump. And when I jumped he came down right after me.
Now Beard and Miami hopes McCoy jumps from FSU to Miami.

McCoy declined to say just how much UM is in his picture now, but there has to be some optimism on the Miami side.

3-STAR OL COMMIT JUAN MINAYA

Minaya is a commit who made the trip down from New Jersey to bond with his fellow commits and try to do some recruiting for the Canes. He said that Miami coaches were excited to see him and made it clear “they are happy to have me as a part of the family.”

He added of the overall experience that “It was awesome – I got to connect with all the commits and coaches and the more I’m around the more connected I get with the school.”

3-STAR PK COMMIT ABRAM MURRAY

The La. kicker committed after attending last year’s barbecue, and he said he had a great experience coming back this year.

He also loves the way the recruiting class is coming together.

“I don’t know how to put it, but we just need to keep recruiting rolling,” Murray said. “We’re picking up steam and need a pull through with a dominant class.”

His bottom line take?

“Let’s keep this thing rolling,” Murray said. “They’re super excited about me coming into the program and say I’m a big piece of our class.”

OL COMMIT EDDY PIERRE-LOUIS

Miami is making a play for Pierre-Louis, who is also high on UCF and has other top programs chasing him.

Pierre-Louis said the Canes put their best foot forward but he’s not saying a lot yet on just where Miami stands in his picture.

What he will say?

“The visit was great,” he said. “I was having a good time with the players and coaches.”

3-STAR OL COMMIT DERYC PLAZZ

Plazz, out of Jacksonville Mandarin High, says of his day on campus that “It was great spending time with like-minded future Canes.”

Plazz says spending time with numerous other commits on hand was a great bonding experience.

“The best part was spending time with commits and recruits – just getting to know guys and learning that they view Miami the same,” he said.

Plazz also said that talking with Miami coaches “They are excited to have me and they want me to continue to recruit hard and perform well this season.”

4-STAR LB COMMIT CAM PRUITT

There was some drama here entering the visit, with the Miami commit Pruitt landing an Alabama offer recently – yes, that’s his home state team. Pruitt stressed he’s still on board with the Canes, but Miami will need to weather the charge from ‘Bama. For the full update with him click here.

4-STAR RB COMMIT KEVIN RILEY

Northport (Al.) Tuscaloosa County four-star Miami running back commit Kevin Riley was a major target for programs like Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn before he committed to the Hurricanes following his one and only June official visit, and he told CaneSport Saturday some programs have attempted to reach out to him despite his recruitment being shut down. You can find out what he was talking about in a full interview here.

4-STAR DE/MICHIGAN COMMITMENT ELIAS RUDOLPH

A Michigan commit, Rudolph was on Miami’s campus today and stayed late meeting with coaches.

So yes, the Canes are making a play here.

Rudolph also had the attention of the Canes’ current recruits, who would love to have him in the class with them.

“You just treat them like another guy, normal,” QB commit Judd Anderson said. “Just you get to know those guys. If a flip happens, a flip happens. You have to let it flow.”

Abram Murray, a kicker commit for Miami, was also in on helping recruit Rudolph – he and some other commits were in a group with Rudolph playing football in the pool.

“(We were) just trying to build that chemistry between all of us,” Murray said. “He felt very welcomed.”

3-STAR DL COMMIT DAYLEN RUSSELL

Daylen Russell was among the Miami commits on campus today.

“The best thing I liked was how all the commits came and were just chatting it up,” Russell said.

Russell also said that Hurricanes coaches “just can’t wait till I get there to start working.”

He’s solid in the class.

2026 WR MALACHI TONEY

The standout 2026 prospect out of Plantation American Heritage already lists 33 scholarship offers,  including Miami. He said that the barbecue/pool party made him feel welcomed and that “It felt really good being there.”

While Toney has no set list of favorites, he says he’d put Miami in his top 2 or 3 (he’s not naming the other programs in there).

Will he be waiting a while to make any college decision?

“I don’t know yet, I might be committing this year, you never know,” Toney said.

4-STAR WR JOSHISA TRADER

It was a couple of weeks ago that highly touted Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna High School WR Joshisa Trader announced his decision to stay home for college, picking Miami over other programs around the nation including Ohio State, Georgia, Florida and Florida State. He was on campus for the recruit barbecue and says while he feels good about his decision that he will go ahead and take official visits this fall. So the Canes will need to weather that.

5-STAR 2025 DE ZAYDEN WALKER

This 5-star is a huge priority for the Miami Hurricanes, and the Ellavilla (Ga.) Schley County standout is the No. 1 EDGE in the rankings for his class. He previously visited UM and said this trip made a big impression. “I’d say everything (impressed),” Walker said. “Everything. Coaching staff, everything. I mean everything.” For our in-depth update with him click here.

Wheatley-Humphrey is excited about the future at Miami and says the message he has is that “This ’24 running backs class is special and we got to take over.”
