Steve Mboumoua, native of Cameroon, emerges as possible 2024 Florida Gators target

The Florida Gators on Saturday offered unrated edge Steve Mboumoua of Canada, an intriguing prospect to say the least. After talking with Mboumoua and others familiar with his recruitment, here’s some intel on this emerging talent.

-Mboumoua, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, is a native of Cameroon. He moved to Canada when he was 12.

-Mboumou, who is 19, is listed as a 2025 recruit — for now anyway. However, he plans to reclassify to 2024 in the very near future. His hope is to enroll at a college in January. Physically, he looks like a million bucks.

-He attends CEGEP at Notre Dame de Foy, a pre-university educational school. High School students graduate after Grade 11 Quebec Provence. Students attend CEGEP schools prior to attending a four-year university.

-Mboumoua’s visit Saturday was his first to Florida. He said it’s a school he’s always wanted to see in person. “It was really nice,” he said. “I love the coaching, I love the coaching staff. Coach (Sean Spencer), Coach (Billy (Napier) as well. … I love the place.”

-Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Penn State are among his recent offers. Business is booming.

-The Gators see him as edge/jack linebacker.

-Even though Florida offered Mboumoua on Saturday, the Gators still plan to do their homework and watch him closely this fall while he’s playing north of the border.

-He has no official leaders, but considers Florida a strong option. Based on talking to someone in Mboumoua’s traveling party, we believe the Gators would be a solid candidate should they heavily pursue him.

-It’s too soon to know which colleges he might try to visit this fall for games.
