Priority 2024 WR recaps Alabama trip: “It was an amazing visit.”

For their final recruiting event of the summer, Alabama welcomed some noteworthy rising seniors on campus. One of those was Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School wideout Amari Jefferson, who visited Bama on Saturday for the fourth time this year.

Jefferson has the Tide in his top three ahead of his Aug. 5 commitment.

“It was an enjoyable trip,” Jefferson told BamaOnLine. “Glad to get back and see the staff and see everybody for the last time before my announcement next Saturday… it was an amazing visit. I’ve had a great time getting to know the staff. I’m excited for what the future holds.”

Joe Cox and position coach Holmon Wiggins have led the charge in Bama’s pursuit of Jefferson. They’ve made it known that he’s a top target for the program.

“Really, just the same stuff: They need me and they want me,” Jefferson said of the staff’s message. “I would be a big get in the class and they would be really excited to get me.”

Jefferson says that Wiggins spent most of the day around him, including the scavenger hunt they did in the afternoon. Saban also met with him in his office, and checked on Jefferson and his parents multiple times throughout his visit.

“I’m very comfortable with the staff. Everyone on the staff, I’m comfortable with,” Jefferson said. “They’ve shown to my family and I that I’m a priority not to just the offense, but the entire program. I’m very comfortable.”

Jefferson, the No. 19 wide receiver in the 2024 class, was with a few Alabama commits during his visit as well.

“I got to spend some time with Caleb Odom and some different guys that were there,” Jefferson said. “They were really just telling me, ‘Come to Bama. We all know what Bama is. It speaks for itself. There’s really nothing to say about it, but you know where to go.’”

Alabama wide receiver commits Jaime Ffrench and Ryan Williams were among the group of recruits who Jefferson chopped it up with.

“We just had some fun and were enjoying the day. I got to meet those guys and spend some time with them,” Jefferson said. “They’re cool guys. Can’t wait to hang around them more. It was really just a chill day.”

Amari Jefferson says Alabama “feels like home”

Although most of the visit was spent with the football program, Jefferson’s main goal on this trip was to meet the new baseball staff. He says about 30 minutes or so were carved out to meet the new staff and see their facilities.

“Saw everything: The field, the facilities, everything,” the dual-sport prospect said. “I got to talk with the staff a little bit. Really just put a name to a face. I’ve been talking on the phone with them, so it was good to get over there and talk with them and see what their plans were for me. Just talking about me playing outfield.”

At the end of the day, this is a football decision for Jefferson, who has been verbally committed to Tennessee’s baseball program since summer 2021.

He outlined the main reasons why Alabama is a finalist for him a week out of his anticipated decision.

“Just my connection with the staff,” Jefferson said. “Everytime I go down there, it feels like home. It feels like a family. Just the way the program is built, it’s a winning culture. Also, the way Coach Saban develops receivers.”

This trip to Alabama comes on the heels of a return to Knoxville. Tennessee’s main message to him was that he’s a hometown recruit and emphasized the opportunities that would bring him. Jefferson also noted that Georgia remains in consideration despite not receiving a visit this week.

Next week, Jefferson will have time to get away from the football side of things ahead of his commitment.

“Excited about the commitment,” Jefferson said. “I’ll be gone all this week playing baseball. It will really get my mind off it, but I’m excited. We’ll sit down as a family and finalize the decision and what we think is best for me.”

Alabama fans, also be sure to join the discussion about Amari Jefferson on the The BOL Round Table. There’s always a lot of great team, recruiting, and off-topic conversations going on. So, we look forward to talking with you all there.
