Marcus Mascoll put on his recruiting hat during Grill in the Ville

Marcus Mascoll put on his recruiting hat during Grill in the Ville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Grill in the Ville offered most of the Florida Gators 2023 commits a chance to get to come to Gainesville. For offensive line commitment Marcs Mascoll it was the first opportunity for him to come to campus after committing to the Gators in June.

“It was great being around Coach Stapleton and Coach Sale and being around the other commits. It was a great time being around all of them.

The event wasn’t just about getting around the coaches. The Grill in the Ville hosted 15 Florida commitments. It served as a chance for the class to be around each other and bond.

“It was mainly just the fellowship,” Mascoll told Gators Online. “The games we had. The food we got to eat. Spending time with the players.”

“Fletcher (Fletcher Westphal) and Nole (Noel Portnjagin). Those are great dudes. You can most definitely see the future for Florida with our skill set and our versatility we can be something special.”

According to On3’s rankings, the 6-foot-4.5, 290-pound Mascoll is the No. 28 offensive tackle in his class. He is also a top-45 prospect in the talent-loaded state of Georgia.

The event hosted 15 of the Gators’ 21 commitments from the 2023 class but it wasn’t exclusive to commits. Florida hosted a slew of 2023, 2024, and 2025 prospects, including 2023 cornerback Wardell Mack. The four-star cornerback from Louisiana is nearing a decision. LSU and Texas are considered contenders as well and the Longhorns have had some momentum since official visits in June. The LSU Tigers are leading the RPM picks for Mack, a school that was close to Florida in Mascoll’s commitment.

Mack is ranked by On3 as one of the Top 20 prospects in America, regardless of position. The two-way standout could play cornerback or safety at the college level. Florida has just one cornerback committed in the class and two safeties, leaving room for the elite prospect from Louisiana.

Mascoll and the rest of the Gators commit worked on Mack, who is expected to make a final decision in August. The Gators are on the outside looking in in On3’s RPM but Mascoll was more confident.

“Most definitely we have a chance,” Mascoll said. “We just asked him what day he’s going to come on. He was being patient. Most definitely we have a chance.”
