Rapid Reaction: What Josiah Davis’ commitment means to Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators hauled in a commitment from athlete/safety Josiah Davis on Monday afternoon. Davis is rated a three-star by On3. Davis is the fifth member of Florida’s 2024 recruiting class. He joins quarterback DJ Lagway, running back Chauncey Bowens, and linebacker Myles Graham.

Representing Nashville (Ga.) Berrien, Davis currently does not have a ranking with On3, but that is expected to change in the near future. That has not prevented additional schools from offering either, as the Gators edge out Tennessee, N.C. State, Kentucky, and Louisville for his commitment.

Davis received a scholarship offer in late February and then made two trips to Gainesville in March. The Gators were named the leader before those visits took place, so it has been all Florida in recent weeks.

According to MaxPreps, Davis accumulated 70 tackles (51 solo), two pass deflections, one sack and an interception as a junior. He made a significant impact with the ball in his hands as well, racking up over 1,000 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns, including seven as a kickoff returner and 12 rushing.

However, as for his projection in Gainesville, Davis is being recruited to play.

“Florida is still my top school right now,” Davis told Gators Online. “It’s just the environment. The environment is just great around there. Everything on the visit was great, like, talking to the coaches and visiting the academic center.

“What stood out about what they said was how they really want me there and how I could really play my freshman year.”

The Gators’ head man himself, Billy Napier, made sure Davis knew how much of a priority he is as well.

“He was talking about the same things, like, how he loves my film and that they really want me there,” said Davis. “I likes how he handles things on the football field and in practice.”

Davis is the fifth commitment for the class of 2024.
