BIG CAT WEEKEND HQ
Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend has arrived and things are already underway. The Tigers are hoping to build off of the momentum that was started earlier in the week with the commitment of 5-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick from Clanton (Ala.) Chilton County.
Over 50 recruits are expected to be on campus for the event. Over half of those recruits hold a 4-star ranking or higher.
Big Cat Weekend first started with former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik and his staff in 2009. It was then picked back up by former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn who was on Chizik’s staff as offensive coordinator. Then it was picked up by the next Auburn head coach, Bryan Harsin.
Now, current Tigers’ coach Hugh Freeze will implement his version of Big Cat Weekend, and it is loaded..

— Jourdin Crawford has arrived.. I think this is a big time player. Jeremy Garrett met him out front. He never misses these events at Auburn and sometimes comes without teammates. I think Auburn has a real shot with this guy in the future.
— First big dog spotted for Big Cat: Derick Smith, 2025 4-star receiver from Selma (Ala.) Southside.
— Here is another one to watch today.. 2025 offensive lineman Spencer Dowland I think there is a possibility Auburn grabs the lead or gets him in the boat..Maybe not today, but soon after. He is someone the Tigers would absolutely take I am told.
— I think I would update my confidence level on TJ Lindsey at this point.. After checking around I think it is very likely that his parents make the trip today to check things out. Lindsey is unable to make it due to having practice, but it seems he will be here in spirit. – Cole Pinkston
— Still quiet in here for now.. Here are some notes on what I know about last night (not a lot)
— Deandre Carter spent most of his time with Jake Thornton from what I understand.. Again, the push is on and it is at a high level.. I think Carter and his family will be here all day to make the most of this trip.. Does he leave committed? I really am not sure.
— KJ Bolden and Perry Thompson were at Freeze’s house last night and were there for a while.. I think there were others, but I cannot confirm who.. Possibly Zaquan Patterson.
— Morning of Big Cat Perry Thompson update: There is confidence in the building, it seems, that something happens today. I feel more confidence about it as well.
— Just arrived at the complex, had a chat outside with Austin Ausberry.. He said he’s fired up for fall camp which starts Wednesday for the players. He is playing safety and working in at nickel as well. He thinks today will be a big day for Auburn.
— I like the way things are trending for Bradley Shaw and Auburn.. I have heard that he was someone Alabama could work back on.. DJ Barber is one as well. I find that interesting. – Cole Pinkston
— In-state OL Reese Baker had planned to visit Troy on Friday and Auburn on Saturday. However, he is sick and will not be able to visit either.
— Auburn Live recruiting analyst Cole Pinkston has added an RPM prediction for 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson to flip from Alabama to Auburn with 65 percent confidence.
— 57 total recruits are expected to attend. Registration begins Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT. Activities for the day include a big campus-wide scavenger hunt and a pool party. Most recruits are expected to arrive on Saturday. That includes five-star DB KJ Bolden and four-star DB Jalewis Solomon. Five-star DB Zaquan Patterson is in Auburn.
— We are told Perry Thompson has arrived in town. There should be something planned for him the entire time he is on campus. Will let you know what that is when we find out.
— Deandre Carter is in town.. he is currently with Jake Thornton. The goal here? Get him in the class. Will it happen? It is possible from what we understand.
