RECRUITING SUMMARY

The recruitment of Derrion Reid has operated outside of the spotlight, as hard as that is to believe for a guy who could finish as a five-star prospect. He likes it that way, too. The Georgia native has taken three official visits thus far. He has been to Georgia, Mississippi State and Kansas State.

The visit to Manhattan took place on June 13. According to quotes from the man himself, his first time in The Little Apple was successful.

“The coaches. They have a great spirit about them. Coach (Jerome) Tang’s personality is like no other. The coaches’ connections with their players really stood out for me on that visit. They’re all really connected; it is for real like a family over there,” the four-star told Jamie Shaw of On3.

The pursuit from K-State has not stopped since his official visit, either. Tang and his staff made it a point to make it to all of Reid’s EYBL games, much the same way that they have with post target Patrick Ngongba of Virginia.

Reid is also considering making trips to Alabama, Kansas and Florida State.

EVALUATION

Reid’s athleticism jumps off the page. The Kansas State target has a few powerful dunks where his head is pretty close to even with the rim. The wing also uses his athleticism and length well on defense by blocking shots and contesting a lot of baskets.

While he does not have the prettiest looking shot, he still shot 46 percent from deep on 26 attempts during the EYBL circuit over the Summer months. Reid also showed to be a willing passer that wanted to make the right plays.

He finished third on Team Thad in assists with 31. Another impressive thing about Reid is his rebounding ability. He averaged 6.5 rebounds per game, which led his team. It is easy to see why Jerome Tang and K-State are pushing as hard as they are for him.

PREDICTION

Making a prediction for Reid is tricky. We expect the Wildcats to be in the final group of suitors before he makes his college decision, along with Georgia, Alabama and Kansas. Mississippi State and Florida State are thought to not necessarily be on the first page at the moment.

I would probably lean towards Reid ultimately picking the Crimson Tide or Jayhawks based on the timing of his recruitment, but don’t count out Kansas State.
