5 intriguing underclassmen expected at Florida Gators’ Grill in the Ville event

With much of the hay in the barn for the Florida Gators’ 2024 recruiting class (they have 21 commitments), we already can turn some of our attention to the 2025s. And Florida will host several elite players in that grade Saturday at the program’s Grill in the Ville event.

Here are five notable juniors expected to be in Gainesville …

-5-star S DJ Pickett, Zephyrhills (Fla.): Florida is the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favorite (only slightly) but the competition is stiff, and includes the likes of Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and others. Pickett was last in Gainesville in June for a 7-on-7 camp and he stole the show. The Gators view him as an elite prospect. In fact, they’re telling Pickett he could play safety or receiver, he’s that good at both. He’s also expected to visit the Wolverines this week.

-4-star RB Waltez Clark, Tampa (Fla.) Plant: Clark, a 4-star recruit, is high on Florida’s recruiting board for 2025 and got lots of attention from the coaching staff when he took part in a 7-on-7 event in Gainesville last month. “I love the coaches,” Clark said. “The relationship I have with the coaches here is unbelievable. I love it. Coach (Jabbar Juluke), Coach (Billy) Napier, Chase (Clark), and there’s a couple other ones … Coach  (Sean) Spencer. There’s a lot of them.” Notre Dame is another program that stands out. Clark could have a commitment decision before the year ends.

-4-star S Hylton Stubbs, Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin: The Gators are the RPM favorites for Stubbs and it’s easy to see why. He has visited Florida multiple times (most recently in June and before that for the spring game) and has built a great relationship with the staff, particularly those on the defensive side of the ball. As Stubbs’ stock has soared, several big-name programs have emerged as competition to Florida. But you have to like what the Gators have done in this recruitment to date.

-4-star DL Jalen Wiggins, Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards: Historically, the Gators have landed many high-level players from the greater-Tallahassee area, from Jack Youngblood to Brad Culpepper to Kevin Carter to Taylor Jacobs. Could Wiggins, the No. 62 prospect in the 2025 class, be the next? Wiggins has visited Florida on multiple occasions this year and it’s possible the Gators are the program to watch at this time.

-3-star CB Chris McCorkle, Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney: There are some in Sarasota who think McCorkle could end up being a better prospect than his teammate, Gators corner commit Teddy Foster. That’s not a knock on Foster. Rather, it’s an indication of how respected McCorkle is. He’s already calling Florida his leader, but this is an important visit because he hasn’t had much face time with the Gators staff
