Jawhar Jordan reveals what would be a successful 2023 season for Louisville

You know the start of the college football season is just around the corner when conferences across the country are hosting or wrapping up their football media days. At the 2023 ACC Football Media Days, Louisville Cardinals star running back Jawhar Jordan was in attendance, answering a laundry list of questions about the expectations for his team next season.

When approached with the question of whether or not Louisville needs to win a championship in 2023 in order for it to be a successful season, the Cardinals’ running back gave a short yet firm answer.

“No, sir. I believe a step forward is successful, so we had seven games – or seven wins in the regular season, so just a step forward would make it a successful season,” said Jordan.

One of the ways Louisville can take a step forward in 2023 is by improving their overall and conference records, as their star running back spotlights. Last season, the Cardinals finished 8-5, including their 24-7 victory over Cincinnati in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. At the same time, Louisville finished 4-4 in the ACC after starting the year with three straight losses in conference play to Syracuse, Florida State, and Boston College. Along with those three defeats, they also fell on the road to the eventual ACC champ Clemson and lost to their in-state rival in the SEC, the Kentucky Wildcats, at the end of the year.

Just by reversing the results of two games, let’s say their 34-33 loss to Boston College and 26-13 loss to Kentucky, and we’re having a whole different conversation about Louisville. So if they can Improve, as Jordan said, improving their overall record by two games, conference by one, and defeating their rival, the Cardinals will jump to a 10-win team and can enjoy a successful 2023 season.

What success could look like for Jordan in 2023

Outside of the team’s success, Jordan could be in line for a successful 2023 season as well. The 5-foot-10 running back from Long Island, NY, will be the feature back in the Cardinals backfilled this season, picking up where he left off in 2022.

Last year, Jordan carried the ball 142 times for 815 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also had 10 receptions for 85 yards. Jordan was Louisville’s statistical leader in nearly all rushing categories except for touchdowns, which was led by last year’s quarterback Malik Cunningham, who is currently in the NFL as a member of the New England Patriots roster.

With a strong season in 2023, with an improvement in rushing yards and touchdowns, Jordan could see his stock rise by the end of the year. And that could have major implications on his draft status should he choose to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.
