NEW On3 Recruiting Prediction: 5-star LB Demarcus Riddick will commit to Auburn

Five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick will announce a “final decision” on Wednesday. The No. 31 overall recruit has been committed to Georgia since November, but likely will choose either Auburn or Alabama today.

And that choice will be Auburn, at least that’s my prediction as of Wednesday morning. I’ve logged that prediction with a confidence level of 55 percent. I join Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston, who logged a prediction for Riddick to Auburn back on March 8.

Riddick, who is from Chilton County, Ala., has been reconsidering his commitment to Georgia for the past few months and Auburn has had a lot to do with it. Hugh Freeze certainly has, and so has linebackers coach Josh Aldridge. The two coaches have been heavily involved in recruiting Riddick. Aldridge running the point with Freeze providing support.

And Freeze has been more involved in Riddick’s recruitment than most head coaches. The No. 3 linebacker absolutely is a huge priority for Auburn, and Freeze and Aldridge have made sure he knows it.

Riddick buzz all Auburn of late

Riddick has kept his decision close to the vest (if in fact he’s made it). Intel about which school he’ll choose has been difficult to come by. I’ve spoken and messaged many people close to Riddick’s recruitment. I’ve put out many feelers. In the end, I received only two types of responses: 1) Some think he’s leaning Auburn. 2) Others have said they’re not sure.

Not much about Alabama. Only Auburn or uncertainty. That’s typically called “buzz” in this industry, and the Tigers have had a lot of it regarding Riddick, at least in the past few weeks.

The Tide had a lot of the buzz back in early spring. It was believed by many, including myself, that should Riddick de-commit from Georgia, he would commit to Alabama. That Bama buzz, however, started to die down late in the spring.

And then that buzz began to shift towards Auburn.

Visits to Auburn key for Riddick

Riddick visited Auburn in March. He then returned in April. It was after the visit in April when Auburn seemed to gain some true momentum in his recruitment. The buzz only intensified after an official visit June 9-11.

Since that official visit, the buzz has been all Auburn. And should he commit to the Tigers, which I predict, we’ll know why.
