Newsstand: Where Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman ranks in notable quarterback stat

The On3 Twitter account posted a graphic that showed the top-10 returning quarterbacks in college football by passing yardage, and Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman made the list.

A season ago, Hartman threw for 3,701 yards for Wake Forest. He also tossed 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on the season.

Hartman is seventh on the list. Western Kentucky’s Austin Reed, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, UTSA’s Frank Harris and Mississippi State’s Will Rogers are ahead of Hartman on the list, respectively.

Arizona’s Jayden De Laura, Oregon’s Bo Nix and Memphis’ Seth Henigan are directly below Hartman to round out the top 10.

On3’s Andy Wittry made an interesting observation on the list, pointing out how many players on this list are taking advantage of extra eligibility, mostly due to the additional COVID-19 year of eligbility. This would include Hartman.

Over the course of five seasons, Hartman finished with 12,967 yards, 110 touchdowns, 41 interceptions and a 59.1% completion percentage.

Quote of the day

“There’s no other school, I’m convinced, and he even said it, that could get him to decommit from Oregon State other than Notre Dame. And when they came calling, he was like, ‘Wow.’”
