“Confidence. I think for the first time, people genuinely think Tennessee is back and that Tennessee can sustain this. I’m not telling you guys anything you don’t already know, but the offense is for real and has been everywhere [Josh] Heupel has been. Last seven quarterbacks – or whatever he’s had – have all put up great numbers. Joe Milton will likely be the next in line and looking ahead to Nico [Iamaleava], the future is very bright at Tennessee…We are sitting there talking Alabama and Georgia. Which one is most likely a win for the Vols this season? The last decade if I asked you that, you guys would have laughed and left the table because it wasn’t even worth entertaining. But here we are discussing it. That’s not to say Tennessee is going to go undefeated and beat everybody, but they certainly exceeded expectations last year. I didn’t have them winning 11 games. I had them winning maybe nine if things broke right, but they exceeded that. I’m sitting here thinking they can only go second in the East, but I’m thinking they can even exceed those expectations. They can win the East. They do host Georgia. This time last year we were saying no one can beat Alabama. They’ve got Bryce Young and Will Anderson – multiple teams beat Alabama. That goes to show you what we know in the offseason. I think the fact that Tennessee enters the season with realistic chances – its not the favorite obviously but chances to win the East – to potentially win the SEC, that has to be said.”
