5-star QB commit DJ Lagway excited about Florida Gators’ WR class, and hopes to add 1 more

Multiple Florida coaches, from Billy Napier to Billy Gonzales to David Doeker, worked hard to secure last week’s commitment from 4-star receiver Tawaski Abrams.
But the staff also had help.
And some of it came from 5-star quarterback commit DJ Lagway.
“I was hitting him up a lot,” Lagway told Gators Online. “I feel like I built a great relationship with him.”
When Abrams, a standout at Fort Myers (Fla.) Dunbar, flipped to Florida from arch-rival Florida State, Lagway was ecstatic to have another weapon on the 2024 commitment list. Abrams became the third receiver in the class and joined 4-star Jerrae Hawkins of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy and 4-star Izaiah Williams of Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day. Williams committed to the Gators on May 5. Hawkins jumped in the boat June 26.
It’s a solid group with whom Lagway, the jewel of the Gators class, is excited to play alongside.
According to Lagway, he has watched video highlights of each Florida receiver commit.
DJ Lagway is excited about his future teammates
“I have a special group of wide receivers coming,” Lagway said. “We’ve got something special in TJ (Abrams), Izaiah and Tank Hawkins. I’ve been looking at those guys and I can’t wait to throw the ball to them and have them go get it.”
Now, Lagway is hopeful the Gators add another receiver to that group.
Florida might only sign three receivers, but certainly would take a fourth if it were an elite prospect. And it just so happens the Gators are heavily recruiting someone who fits into that category. That would be 5-star receiver Jeremiah Smith of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, an Ohio State commit.
Lagway, the No. 30 recruit nationally in the On3 Industry Ranking, officials visited the Gators the same weekend in June as Smith. Additionally, the two spent time together the last week in May in Nashville, Tenn., at On3’s Elite NIL Series event.
“I haven’t been recruiting him, but I’ve been building a great relationship with Jeremiah Smith,” Lagway told Gators Online. “He’s more of a quiet kid. I’m really just trying to build that relationship with him. We play Madden (the video game) all the game.”
