Setting the Board: Ole Miss cornerback targets

Ole Miss is currently inside the Top 30 in On3’s 2024 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings. Lane Kiffin has 17 commits and is working with an 18 percent blue chip rating. The class is 41 percent in-state but also has commits from five others states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee.

Kiffin has made a concerted effort to hammer recruiting inside the state of Mississippi. There is a ton of talent in this cycle and the presence of Pete Golding has made a major difference alongside coordinator of recruiting strategy Kelvin Bolden.

But as the dead period ends and things start to heat up for the Rebels on the recruiting trail prior to the 2023 season, the hot list is starting to take shape. Let’s take a look.

3-star Bobby Kennedy

School: New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 1136
On3 RPM: Tulane 30.8%, SELA 26.9%, Alabama State 23.1%, Ole Miss 19.2%

Ole Miss already has cornerback commitments from Patrick Bloomfield and Bernard Causey but could be looking to add another. Kennedy would be one of the first in line if Golding and Keynodo Hudson were to go looking for another. Keep an eye on the 6-foot-3 prospect and if he visits Oxford for Juice Fest and/or this fall for a game. Ole Miss has recruited Louisiana well and the trend could continue here if a push happens.

3-star Deylen Platt

School: Venice (Fla.) High
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 1284
On3 RPM: Ole Miss 86.1%, USF 1.8%, FAU 1.6%

The No. 103 cornerback in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 135 prospect from Florida recently took an official visit to Illinois in June. Before, he took unofficial visits to Ole Miss, TCU and Texas A&M. As a junior, he made 38 tackles and had eight pass breakups and an interception for Venice High School. Platt was a key cog for a defense which got the Vikings to the Florida 4S state championship game.

“Ole Miss was another great experience, I took an unofficial and participated in the camp,” Platt said. “They most definitely made me feel like I was at home.”

The 6-foot-3, 195 pound recruit has seen his stock rise after a big 7v7 summer. He utilizes his length and ball skills to make plays in one-on-one coverage and has shined at free safety as well. Hudson, a Florida native, is Platt’s primary recruiter and has coached several like him.
