2025 commit Caden VerMaas using Nebraska drills to prepare for high school season and beyond

Omaha (Neb.) Millard North safety Caden VerMaas had a feeling about the 2024 class. He’s not surprised how well the class has come together because of what Matt Rhule and his staff bring to the table. VerMaas attended the Friday Night Lights camp this summer and continues to work those drills he learned to prepare for Class A ball the next two seasons and be as prepared as he can be for when he gets to Nebraska.
VerMaas committed towards the end of April and enjoyed seeing the Nebraska staff go to work to practically close out the 2024 class over the next three months. VerMaas had a feeling about how well this staff could recruit.
“The 2024 class is blowing up!” Ver Maas said. “I kind of saw that coming with the 2024 class. If you look at all of the coaches, how they talk to you, and how they are around you, the Nebraska staff treats you the best. That’s how it was to me.
“I was talking to my dad about this the other night. I am 45 minutes from Nebraska, and it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to go to Nebraska, but with the new staff, it was a great feeling. You always feel wanted by this staff. Every time you are with them.
“You will never feel left out. They always go around with you, talk to you, and that sort of stuff because they want the best possible experience for you so that kids will keep coming back.”

When VerMaas was in Lincoln this summer, he worked with the Nebraska staff and participated in some of their drills. He also saw these same drills being used in a Nebraska practice. He is working it into his routine to prepare for his junior season.
“I went to Nebraska’s Friday Night Lights camp, and I have been doing those drills because that’s what I remember seeing them do in practice. You are never going to reach perfection, no one does, but I want to work on my craft so when I get there, I am ready.
“Then I am also working on a lot of compound movements in the weight room. My goal is that I can come to Nebraska after working on those things and be ahead of other people. I am trying to prepare myself the best that I possibly can.”
Speed aspect to Nebraska’s recruiting profile is impossible to overlook
Going back to the 2023 class, the speed that Nebraska added with Matt Rhule trying to complete the class and add pieces to his roster through portal transfers has a common theme: speed. VerMaas sees what’s going on in college football and knows that Nebraska must change to get competitive.
“What I have noticed in my experience with working with the Nebraska staff is that they want guys that are fast,” VerMaas said. “I love that about them. We have seen Georgia and Alabama take over. They have the best athletes and the fastest players. Nebraska is attempting to do that and we need to keep up with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and with USC and UCLA coming to the Big Ten.”
VerMaas says that the plan this fall is to come back to Lincoln for every home game. He plans to use his guest tickets wisely and bring people to the game that could enjoy the experience of attending the game as a visitor.
“My plan is to get back for every home game that we can,” VerMaas said. “We will be going to every game and my plan is to bring all sorts of family and friends as my guests.”
