Latest recruiting intel on top 2024 prospects as we enter visit season

Latest recruiting intel on top 2024 prospects as we enter visit season

It is officially visit season. We are starting to see some commitments trickle in as travel ball season is winding down, and players and coaches have time to narrow their lists and focus on their visits and recruitment. Classes are set to start back, for most schools, in August. A majority of schools want students on campus when they host visitors. They also would not mind bringing them in for a home football game to put their best foot forward.

As we enter the visit season, there is a lot of movement and things to watch for. While visit dates can be set, recruiting boards can be fluid and changing. Players can only commit to one school, which leaves the other programs adjusting their lists. Timelines change, and visit dates get added and canceled. Actually, getting a player on campus is a big step during this time, and so are timelines.

Let’s go through where things stand for some of the top players in the 2024 class as we head into visit season.

Five-star Plus+ PF Asa Newell

The Buzz: Asa Newell took two early official visits to Indiana in October and Georgia in September. The Montverde (FL) Academy forward led the USA Basketball U19 team in blocks (2.2), finishing third overall in the FIBA World Championships. One school to watch as we start to get into visit season is Georgia. Newell’s brother Jaden Newell is a rising sophomore for the Bulldogs, and current Georgia assistant Erik Pastrana was the first to offer Newell when he was at Oklahoma State. Newell is also originally from Athens, Georgia. Florida is the home state school, and Indiana has successful ties to Montverde. After the summer that Newell had with the 1Family program on the Pro16 NXT Circuit, schools are about to start rolling out the red carpet. Continue to monitor the visits

Five-star Plus+ C Flory Bidunga

The Buzz: Flory Bidunga recently cut his list to four, Auburn, Duke, Kansas, and Michigan. The 6-foot-10 center from Kokomo (IN) High has taken an official visit to all four programs. Since the offer in June, a lot of signs have pointed toward Duke. However, recently Kansas has started to pick up steam. Bidunga plays travel ball with the Adidas-sponsored Indiana Elite program, and Kansas is a flagship Adidas school. While all four schools will roll out the red carpet, these two seem to be the ones with the most buzz currently. With the list trimmed to four and officials taken to each program, there is talk of a commitment in the coming few weeks.

Four-star PF Robert Miller

The Buzz: There is a lot of intrigue with Robert Miller’s game. At 6-foot-10, the Houston (TX) Pasadena Memorial forward is young for his grade and has a unique skill level and fluidity for his size. His flashes are becoming more consistent. Miller recently put out a top six that included Alabama, Texas, LSU, Arkansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. The four-star has already taken an official visit to LSU and Colorado. He says he is in the process of trying to set dates with Texas, Alabama, and Oklahoma. Sources close to the recruitment have long said to watch for LSU here, Miller’s dad played football there. One source recently suggested watching how things progress with Texas, TJ Ford is his trainer, and Miller plays for his travel program. Things are starting to come down the home stretch; watch the visits here, who gets him on campus, and the order.

Four-star PG Bishop Boswell

The Buzz: Bishop Boswell led his Team CP3 team in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals during the Nike EYBL Circuit regular season. After Peach Jam, Boswell cut his list to six, Georgia, Xavier, Wake Forest, Missouri, Tennessee, and South Carolina. The 6-foot-4 point guard at Charlotte (NC) Myers Park has taken official visits to Xavier and Missouri, and is in the process of setting visits with the remaining schools. Heading into the visits, Xavier and Wake Forest are two schools carrying some momentum. Another source recently said to watch for Tennessee to make a push. Boswell says he wants to commit before his high school season starts.

Four-star SG Jalil Bethea

The Buzz: Jalil Bethea proved to be one of the better scorers on Nike’s EYBL Circuit this summer. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard averaged 18.7 points and shot 41.1 percent from three for Team Final, who finished No. 1 during the circuit’s regular season. The four-star recently issued a top five that included Syracuse, Alabama, Miami, Kansas, and Villanova. Bethea took an official visit with Syracuse while Boeheim was still the head coach. He has upcoming visits set with Alabama, Miami, and Kansas. One source recently suggested that one other avenue to watch for here is the G-League, and while they were not listed in his top group, the Ignite program has tended to get guys later in the process. Currently, Alabama gets him on campus last. Watch the visit schedule.

Four-star CG Ahmad Nowell

The Buzz: Ahmad Nowell is a player that winning seems to follow around. This high school season, he won his second consecutive state championship with Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep Charter. On Nike’s EYBL Circuit, his Team Final team finished first place during the regular season, only recording one loss. Nowell’s final four programs include Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, and UConn. Heading down the final stretch of this one, there is confidence on the UConn side of things.

Four-star SG Cam Scott

The Buzz: Cam Scott is coming off an eight-month stretch that saw him earn South Carolina’s Gatorade Player of the Year, co-MVP of the Pangos All-American Camp, and lead his Team United team in scoring at rebounding during Nike’s EYBL regular season. On the recruiting side, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard at Lexington (SC) High has taken official visits to Auburn, South Carolina, Texas, and Oregon. He has an upcoming visit scheduled with Ole Miss; see if he takes that one. Texas has a history with Scott and intel suggests there is some confidence on the Longhorn’s end. Another school to watch is Alabama. His long-time travel ball teammate Jarin Stevenson will be a freshman there in the Fall. Watch if he sets something up with the Crimson Tide. While sources say those are two shools to watch, see if he gets on any other campuses before a decision. Scott is planning to sign early.

Four-star SG Jaiden Glover

The Buzz: Jaiden Glover is a 6-foot-5 wing who carries a reputation as a confident shooter with a strong, lengthy frame and good athleticism. The Hillsdale (NJ) The Patrick School wing recently issued a top eight that included Seton Hall, Creighton, Illinois, St. John’s, Villanova, Ohio State, St. Joseph’s, and Providence. He has set two upcoming official visits, Seton Hall and St. John’s. These will be his first two officials. Heading to the visits, St. John’s is a school I have heard to watch for. Continue to monitor which programs get him on campus. In talking with him, he is currently unsure if he will sign early or late.

Four-star SG Gicarri Harris

The Buzz: Gicarri Harris averaged 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists at Loganville (GA) Grayson High this season. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard led his team all the way to the Final Four of the Georgia 7A state tournament. He’s picked up over 20 offers along the way. The four-star has taken early visits to Purdue and Stanford. He’s talking with Miami, LSU, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech about future visits. Watch to see which schools get him on campus moving forward, as well as the timeline/order of the visits and commitment date.

Four-star C Aiden Sherrell

The Buzz: Shortly after helping lead his Vegas Elite team to the final game of Nike’s Peach Jam, Aiden Sherrell recently announced his final five schools, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, and Michigan State. The 6-foot-11 center who recently announced he would transfer to Napa (CA) Prolific Prep has taken official visits to Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Michigan State. He does not plan to visit Texas. One source recently told me to watch for Alabama here. Sherrell is originally from Detroit, Michigan. He is scheduled to commit on August 13.

Three-star SF Jaxon Johnson

The Buzz: What a July it was for Jaxon Johnson. Not only did he explode for 16 points and the game MVP of the Adidas 3SSB Championships, but he followed that up by shooting 46 percent from three on 2.2 makes per game in his six Sportradar Showdown games in Las Vegas. The 6-foot-8 wing has been on campus at Utah State and Stanford. Look for the Sandy (UT) Alta High wing forward to set visits with BYU, Southern California, and Utah – all offered in July. While BYU typically has a good track record with players from Utah, a lot of this recruitment is new for him. Continue to monitor who gets him on campus and what his timeline ends up being.

Four-star SF Jakhi Howard

The Buzz: Things have been somewhat quiet around Jakhi Howard and his recruitment. The 6-foot-6, highly explosive forward has announced he is committing on July 29; however, he did not give a top group list. One source close to the recruitment said to watch for Memphis here. He did take an unofficial visit to NC State with friend and recent NC State de-commitment Trey Parker. UConn, Georgetown, Auburn, and Southern California are other schools that have been linked to Howard at one point in time or another.
