WATCH: Ole Miss DL commit William Echoles can do it on the baseball diamond as well

Houston (Miss.) defensive lineman William Echoles committed to Ole Miss last month over a host of Power 5 offers. Rebel defensive line coach Randall Joyner stayed consistent in his approach which he thinks his future is on the defensive line. Others have recruited him as an offensive lineman.

Now, he’s showing his worth at another position. On the baseball field.

Will Echoles hits a double for Douglas Baseball Blue.

The 6-foot-4, 290 pound prospect legs out a double during a summer baseball tournament in Memphis, Tenn. Sure he’s been recruited for football by Lane Kiffin and his staff and he’s flashed his athleticism on the hardwood for Houston High School, but now he’s flexing his multi-sport muscle in baseball.

The rising senior prospect listed as the No. 60 interior offensive lineman in the 2024 class and the 24th-ranked recruit in the Magnolia State.

Echoles chose Ole Miss thanks in large part to his relationship with Joyner and new defensive coordinator Pete Golding.

“Him coming from Alabama and his history of putting a lot of guys in the league was big,” Echoles said. “He told me I fit the scheme and what I do is perfect for what they do.”

William Echoles’ versatility and athleticism are big reasons why Ole Miss likes him as a prospect.

And even though he is being brought in to play defense, the Mississippi recruit said he’s built relationships with everyone on staff.

“They offered me as a defensive lineman initially but I have gotten to know coach (John) Garrison as well,” Echoles said. “I talk with him a lot and he’s great. They have always treated me and my family well.”

The 17th member of the Ole Miss class plans on getting back to Oxford, Miss., at the end of July for Lane Kiffin‘s Juice Fest 23. He also wants to “definitely” go to the LSU game this fall. He also has his sights set on a big prospect in the 2024 class.

“I’ve met Jeffery Rush and Kamron Beavers at camps and we have talked about bringing Kamarion Franklin in with us,” Echoles said. “I’ve met him at a few camps and I know he’s a big-time player but we are gonna get him. I’m close with Rush and Beavers now so we want to get the best in this class.”

Joyner and Golding tag-teamed this one. The 6-foot-4, 290 pound prospect loves what both have planned for him. But it’s not always about X’s and O’s and what he will be doing inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

“With coach Joyner, it wasn’t always about football with him,” Echoles said. “He wants what’s best for me as a person and as a man, he wants to make me better. More life talk than football talk.”
