Recruiting Notebook: Brix to see Kansas State, Oklahoma and Nebraska one more time

Kansas State coin flips
Everyone knows that Kansas State is just awaiting the decisions of Junction City linebacker Michael Boganowski and four-star offensive lineman Grant Brix of Iowa. We haven’t shared any new information recently on either K-State target.
Unfortunately, there still isn’t much to glean from either recruitment. The latest chatter that was heard is that both are still considered coin flips for Kansas State. Even as some tend to believe that the Wildcats are a little behind on both, that is not the sentiment shared to KSO.
It is still thought that Oklahoma is the stiffest competitor for Boganowski, not Kansas. But he is visiting Lawrence again for a reason, so stay tuned. On the Brix front, Nebraska is still viewed as the top challenger.
New hoops offer
The K-State basketball recruiting conversation has been much quieter since it did not go their way for the pair of West Virginia transfers in Mohamed Wague and Joe Toussaint. At this point, the transfer portal pool has dried up in a considerable manner.
That doesn’t mean they aren’t still covering ground on the high school front. David Castillo is already in the fold and the Wildcats are very competitive for both Patrick Ngongba and Derrion Reid. But the progress isn’t just exclusive to the 2024 cycle, either.
In fact, Kansas State recently extended an offer to a blossoming prospect in the 2026 class in Tristan Reed of John Burroughs School in St. Louis. He also plays for MoKan on the AAU circuit, which is clearly a connection at the disposal of K-State.
However, after being the first to extend him a scholarship, Reed was offered by Michigan soon afterwards. Why is that significant? Reed is the the younger brother of Tarris Reed. Reed was pursued by Bruce Weber and Chris Lowery when they were at Kansas State but committed and signed with the Wolverines.
Tarris Reed played for Michigan last season and is expected to be a starter for Juwan Howard and company in 2023.
K-State visit on tap
We discussed Brix in the first section of the article, and like Boganowski, he will make three additional visits before making his college choice. All three of K-State, Nebraska and Oklahoma will host him for a late July visit, per a source.
Like Boganowski, Brix will be in Manhattan on July 27.
