LSU making big push for 4-star WR Jacorey Watson

2025 Pearland (Tex.) Shadow Creek wide receiver Jacorey Watson is readying for his junior season. It’s a chance for the four-star prospect to keep elevating as a Top 100 prospect already.
“Summer’s been good, just working and getting better at my position, being a leader,” Watson told On3. “Bonding with the team and fitting the right pieces together. I wanted to get faster and my ability to move up, get tuned up and all the skills so I’ll be good for this season.”
On the recruiting front, Watson’s been garnering interest from some of the top programs nationally.
“It’s going very well. Getting to see the coaches more, talk with them, sit down and go over my film and their film to see how I’d fit in their playbook,” He said. “Right now, it’s been Houston, LSU, Texas, TCU, Oregon, Colorado and Ole Miss. Those have been the main people I’ve been talking to a lot.”
LSU wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and recruiting specialist Sherman Wilson are leading the push from the Tigers.
“Very well with coach Hankton, that’s my dawg,” Watson said. “We always chop it up a lot. Coach Sherm, that’s my dawg, too. We chop it up a lot. It should be a good time going out there for the Splash. They’re like family. They’re like father figures away from dad. It’s like family over there.”
Watson’s been at LSU many times and in Year 1 of the Brian Kelly era, he saw a lot to like.
“Everybody was dogging him coming over to LSU, big SEC, but he put up for LSU,” he said. “He looks very good over there. I watch their receivers a lot. The way their playbook and how their quarterback takes over the game, helps the coaches, put the players in the right position on Saturday nights.”
Last fall, he was in town for the LSU-Alabama game. Tiger Stadium stands out in a big way.
“It’s crazy, especially against big teams against Alabama,” he said. “I like it over there.”
In-state schools among those pushing for Watson
The in-state Longhorns lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine and Steve Sarkisian’s program impresses him.
“Texas is big, too. Their fanbase is crazy, too. It’s a lot over there, too. Everything’s big over there. Coach Chris Jackson is my dawg and coach Sarkisian,” Watson said. “I like everything they got over there. The playbook is like what we run over at Shadow Creek. It’s cool to fit in there. They’re getting a lot of big-time players. LSU’s getting a lot of big-time players. Lot of recruiting going on.”
Houston, which landed a commitment from his teammate Maurice Williams, sticks out as well.
“It’s home and they’re right down the street,” Watson said. “If you don’t want to go that far, you can go there. It’s big that (Houston’s going to the Big 12). They got big shoes to fill in. They should have a good season though.”
TCU is coming off a terrific season under Sonny Dykes as wide receivers coach Malcolm Kelly shows Watson he’s a priority.
“They’re like family over there,” he said. “They got a good program, almost winning the National Championship. They should be straight this year, too. Coach Kelly is a down to earth guy. We chop it up a lot.”
Watson plans to make a decision after he takes official visits next summer. He knows what he’s watching over the next year.
“How I fit in these college playbooks, how I’d fit in and comfortable at.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Watson ranks as the No. 87 overall prospect in the country and No. 14 wide receiver in the nation. On3 has him as the No. 59 overall prospect and No. 11 wideout nationally.
