Michigan State 2024 commitment Reggie Powers III discusses decision to enroll early

Michigan State class of 2024 commitment Reggie Powers, of Dayton (OH) Centerville School announced his decision to enroll early with the Spartans via social media earlier this week. Powers (6-1, 195) committed to Michigan State in June after an official visit. He also took official visits to Pittsburgh and Northwestern. Ohio State, Cincinnati, and others also offered.

On3 ranks Powers a four-star. He is also ranked the No. 33 safety in the country, and the No. 11 recruit in Ohio.

The Spartans will get Powers on campus in the winter of 2023 instead of the summer of 2024, giving the four-star extra time on campus before his freshman season.

“I think ever since that was an option for me it’s been a no brainer because of the way I can get a head start on things,” Powers told SpartanMag.com. ”A big thing for me is playing early so i think doing that and being in the program and learning early will help me throughout the spring and summer.”

“It will definitely help with me learning the playbook and being aware of that early,” Powers said. ”Also the weight training and strength and conditioning, that as well.”

Before enrolling at Michigan State, Powers has unfinished business back at Centerville.

“I am looking to improve myself all around as a leader and as a player,” Powers said. ”I’m looking to win this high school season and lead my team. I wanna become a better player and make plays all year. Also just have fun during my last year while getting ready for college.”

When turning on the tape, it is clear Powers is not afraid of contact. He has also lit up the spring 7v7 circuit, racking up the interception total.

“I am a very violent and aggressive, but smart player that is going to go hard every play and make a lot of plays.”

As for the rest of the Spartan 2024 class, Powers is building his relationships with the 11 other members.

“I think we have built a very strong class overall in the past 1-2 months , we have built a good relationship in the past few weeks with everyone coming together and i’m looking forward to seeing them again next weekend at Spartan Con.”

Powers will also be putting his recruiting hat on with other recruits at SpartanDawg Con.

“That they are a family like program that will always keep it real with you,” Powers said. “They will be there for you on and off the field. And it is a very competitive program that wants to win.”
