2025 4-star safety Jontae Gilbert gets another dose of Georgia

2025 4-star safety Jontae Gilbert gets another dose of Georgia

Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass four-star Ohio State safety commit Jontae Gilbert has continued his courtship with Georgia.

The No. 36 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings committed to the Buckeyes back on July 29. He didn’t hold an offer from the in-state Bulldogs at the time.

Since Georgia extended an offer in November, the Bulldogs and Gilbert have been building a relationship and feeling one another out. He’s been on campus four times total since the offer came.

Gilbert was back in Athens on June 21. This time he camped for Georgia’s secondary coach Fran Brown and co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp during a camp. Gilbert felt optimistic about the visit.

The Bulldogs felt he showcased his ability as a cornerback and as a safety.

“It went good,” Gilbert said. “They like my coverage ability, my size and I can move. They see me as both.”

Gilbert is locked in with the Buckeyes at the moment. Georgia has remained a consistent pusher in Gilbert’s recruitment. The Bulldogs have made it clear that Gilbert is a player that Georgia has their eyes on in the class of 2025.

“They’re pushing really hard,” Gilbert said. “We’re talking every week and keeping in touch.”

When Gilbert gets on campus he feels the love as well.

“The coaches love me, I always have a great time when I go there,” Gilbert said.

Gilbert’s intention is to continue to build a relationship in Athens. There are a few factors that he still wants to see from Georgia as he gets to know the Bulldogs’ staff and culture.

“I want to see how fast I could play there and how I could develop as a player and as a man there,” Gilbert said.

Jontae Gilbert feels like a priority at Georgia

Gilbert has felt like a priority to Georgia’s current commits. The Bulldogs already have six commits in the class of 2025. Georgia has 25 in the class of 2024.

Fellow in-state four-star Jadon Perlotte has been in the ear of Gilbert trying to pull the four-star Ohio State commit to Athens.

A few older prospects, Dylan Raiola and Jaden Reddell, have also been working the phone trying to land the 2025 four-star. Raiola was also an Ohio State commit at one point.

Raiola’s message to Gilbert has been simple and clear.

“It’s the place to be,” Gilbert said of Raiola’s pitch.

What’s next?

Gilbert will make his way to Athens this fall for a game. He hasn’t decided which game he will attend as of now.
