Who’s left in the state of California in the 2024 class for USC?
With one of the top prospects in California, four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, approaching his commitment decision, now is a good time to take a look at who else is available in the state of California. To this time, USC holds commitments from six prospects out of California, all four of them being ranked as four-star talents.
As I have covered in the past few days, there are a slim number of targets left on the board altogether for USC. In the state of California? Only four active targets.
One is obviously Viliamu-Asa, who we have covered at length the past several weeks.
The rest of the group starts with Mater Dei five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland. Oregon has gotten most of the buzz in recent months, USC is still very much involved in his recruitment. Breland has previously stated he is planning to take an official visit to USC in the fall. Oregon, Georgia, Miami, and Texas A&M all received officials in June.
WeAreSC asked Breland in June what he’s hearing from USC when they communicate.
“They tell me I’m one of their top guys and that they want to keep me at home to play,” said Breland. “I wouldn’t necessarily say staying home is a big priority, but it’s a great option. I’m a southern California kid and it would always be great to stay home and play ball at the next level.”
The second name to highlight in this list is four-star defensive lineman Jericho Johnson.
There has not been a ton said about Johnson as of recent, but we do know Johnson is also planning an official visit to USC in the fall. To this time, he has taken two official visits: Miami and Washington. As of right now, the Huskies are the favorite to land his commitment.
The final name of the group is St. John Bosco four-star safety Jason Mitchell. USC has long been the favorite in the RPM to land Mitchell, but other defensive backs received more buzz this summer , obviously five of them being the group that is now committed to the Trojans.
Mitchell has taken six visits to USC in his recruitment, however not an official visit to this point. In fact, he has not taken any official visits. Mitchell told WeAreSC earlier this summer though he did plan to take an official to USC.
Will more in-state prospects be added to the list for USC?
As the 2023 season gets underway this fall, it is highly likely Lincoln Riley and the rest of the USC staff will monitor a number of un-offered prospects throughout California as well as the rest of the country.
As the season progresses and these prospects add new film to the resume, we should see some offers dished out. There will also be some late risers around the country who emerge with some impressive film that has not been seen yet. As prospects get 3-4 games into their senior seasons, this is a realistic timeline of when some “late” offers will be dished out.
