4-Star North Carolina Edge Planning Summer USC Official Visit
Most following recruiting closely are very aware of Charlotte (NC) Christian 4-Star Edge Bryce Young’s connections to Notre Dame. His father, Bryant Young, was a star in South Bend before going on to a Hall of Fame caliber NFL career.
What few are aware of are Young’s family ties to the University of Southern California. That’s right, one of Notre Dame’s main rivals USC.
For USC, Young immediately clicked with outside linebacker coach Roy Manning, but his family ties to the Trojans are fairly significant.
“The conversation that I had with coach (Roy) Manning was good,” Young said. “My sister went to USC and she loved it. I’m sure I’d love it too if I can see myself there.”
Young visits USC, will he be back?
Young took his first unofficial visit to USC on March 25 and shared a few photos on Twitter from the visit. WeAreSC asked Young if he planned on getting back to USC at some point?
“Yes sir,” said Young. “I plan on taking an Official Visit to USC in the summer.”
Academics matter
Young’s recruitment goes beyond Notre Dame. The No. 103 overall prospect in the 2024 On300 rankings saw a lot of new interest during the evaluation period. Three programs jumped into Young’s focus as offers came in January. Duke, Penn State and USC all carved out spots for the long haul in Young’s recruitment.
Wouldn’t be surprising if the Tennessee Vols ends up in the mix with the Irish, Trojans, Blue Devils and Nittany Lions.
“I’m just trying to figure out where I see myself,” Young said. “It’s (Duke) is close to home, but what I really like about it is the environment. Coach (Mike) Elko is building something that I can be a part of in the future. That’s appealing to me, building something from the ground up. It’d be (a) pretty school to see, helping to build a legacy.”
