Daniel Suárez to drive No. 10 Xfinity car for Kaulig at Pocono

NASCAR Cup Series driver Daniel Suárez will hop over to the Xfinity Series and race in Saturday’s Explore the Pocono Mountains 225 at Pocono Raceway.

The Trackhouse Racing star will be behind the wheel of the No. 10 Chevy for Kaulig Racing. It will be Suárez’s second Xfinity Series start of the season, as he raced his way to a P27 result at Sonoma Raceway last month driving the No. 07 for SS GreenLight Racing.

Suárez, 31, last competed full-time in the Xfinity Series in 2016 driving the No. 19 car for Joe Gibbs Racing. He won three races and won the Xfinity Series championship before earning a call-up to the Cup Series.

Coming off a career-best finish of 10th in the points standings this past season, Suárez sits 17th through 20 races in 2023 — one point behind Michael McDowell for the final spot in the playoffs. After finishing second at Atlanta Motor Speedway the week prior, Suárez notched a 16th place finish in Monday’s Crayon 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

He cited issues on pit stops for losing track position throughout the race.

“In the beginning, we had track position and we were able to defend ourselves pretty decent,” Suárez said after the race, via Dustin Long of NBC Sports. “But once we lost track position and we lost the balance of the car a little bit in stage 2, we just couldn’t recover. It seemed like we had some issues with the right-rear on the pit stops that cost us a lot of track position, as well. My pit crew is one of the best out there and I know that they’re going to figure it out. I’m pretty sure it was a mechanical issue and it wasn’t their problem.”

Daniel Suárez battling to get into NASCAR Cup Series playoffs

With six races before the playoffs begin in September, Suárez knows the easiest path to qualification is collecting a win down the stretch.

“We just have to continue to perform to the speed of the race car, we have had pretty good speed,” Suárez said ahead of Monday’s race. “I will say most of the races, sometimes we lack a little bit of execution but I felt that we’re in a good spot right now and hopefully we can continue the trend of good speed and good execution.”
