Five-star Colin Simmons hints that commitment date is coming soon

If there is one “must get” recruit for the Texas Longhorns in the 2024 cycle, it is Colin Simmons.

The On3 Industry Ranking five-star+ EDGE prospect out of Duncanville High has pass rush ability the Longhorns haven’t signed since Steve Sarkisian and staff have been in Austin. And it’s sounding like the Texas staff will know soon if they have added the “must get” recruit to the 2024 class.

The No. 1 ranked EDGE prospect in the country dropped a hint

Simmons made an official visit to Texas June 23-25. And since that time, the Longhorns have been considered the front runner over LSU and Texas A&M with a decision expected to keep the DFW area star close to home.

Simmons made June official visits to Miami, Oregon and SMU in addition to Texas. He’s currently expected to make unofficial visits to Texas A&M and possibly LSU the last weekend in July.

The No. 1 ranked prospect in the Lone Star State had originally had a timeline of December for his commitment, but there is the possibility that his timeline has sped up since June. There is a push by a couple of people close to the five-star to commit prior to his senior season.

The Longhorns have made Simmons a complete staff recruitment. That includes Steve Sarkisian, Jeff Banks, Jeff Choate, Pete Kwiatkoski and others.

Texas leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine over LSU headed into the last couple of weeks of July.

Simmons was dominant on the field as a junior for the 6A State Champions. He posted 33 tackles for loss and 22.5 sacks for the Panthers.
