Kenny Pickett discusses process of earning trust of Steelers teammates as a rookie

As Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett continues the process of improving going into his second season with the organization he’s feeling significantly more comfortable than he did a year ago.
A handful of come-from-behind games in the 2022 season helped put him right at ease.
“I don’t know if it was like a moment or you just kind of feel like, over time, it sways to where those last four games of the season it felt like to me, it felt like I was kind of running the offense and I was on my way to where I wanted to be,” Pickett said on Green Light with Chris Long.
As far as the improvement process, Kenny Pickett’s rookie season had some highs and lows.
He failed to have a single game with multiple touchdown passes during his rookie season, but on the flip side, he led four game-winning drives and three fourth-quarter comebacks.
That’s not a bad track record of success for a rookie quarterback.
“Having those fourth-quarter wins and those come-from-behind wins, those are big moments that kind of validate all the hard work and everything that we were putting into it to try and get back into that playoff chase,” Pickett said.
This offseason, Kenny Pickett’s process is making him feel more comfortable with the offense.
“Really mastering the offense and being an extension of the coaching staff,” Pickett said. “I can echo things and say how I want it and how I like it. The communication from player to coach has been great. We’re kind of spreading it out to the receiving room, the tight ends. Everyone is on the same page. I think communication is No. 1 in my position and letting everyone know where they need to be. These guys are all professionals, and they show up and work hard.”
Whether that translates to additional wins and a playoff berth in 2023 remains to be seen. But thanks to his process, Kenny Pickett is certainly feeling more comfortable heading into his second season.
He pointed to that particular stretch late in the 2022 season as the reason why.
“I think over those four games is where I kind of started to feel like it was becoming my offense and I was running the show,” Pickett said.
