Beyond the upcoming three, who to look for on the trail for USC

Beyond the upcoming three, who to look for on the trail for USC

USC has had an extremely quiet July with in-person recruiting on pause right now and no commitments through the first three weeks after June, which brought up 13 commitments. USC is awaiting three decisions however in the coming days.

It was announced yesterday that five-star wide receiver Mike Matthews will be announcing his commitment tomorrow, July 19.

Just two days later, USC will await the decision of the nation’s No. 1 running back Taylor Tatum. Tatum, who will be picking between USC and Oklahoma, is set to announce his decision around 11 A.M. Friday morning.

The final commitment of the trio will come from Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa on Saturday on July 23.

But after these announcements, who can fans be on the lookout for in USC recruiting? There are only a select few names who are still in that conversation, which likely means we will see somewhat of a reset of the board heading into the season to fill the rest of the class.

Who is left for USC after these upcoming decisions?

I will go position by position just to give a full look at the board for USC.

It has been covered at length prior that USC is not actively pursuing any quarterbacks in this cycle.

Beyond Taylor Tatum, there is not a specific name at running back to be on the lookout for that has been offered. Derrick McFall out of Tyler, Texas, is a name who has been mentioned a few times as a possible option if Tatum sides with Oklahoma. To this time though, McFall has not been offered by the Trojans.

Yet another position with no exact targets set for the remainder of the class is wide receiver. Matthews is favored to commit to Tennessee, which will leave only two uncommitted offers at the poison, neither of which are being currently pursued by USC. The Trojans hold commitments from two top-100 prospects at wide receiver. Any more at the position in this cycle will simply be a cherry on top.

The tight end class is full for USC in this cycle as they hold commitments from a pair of four-star talents in Walter Matthews and Joey Olsen.

USC is looking for one more offensive line in this class to join the four that are currently committed. The staff is aiming to add a prospect at tackle rather than interior for the final spot. The hometown Brandon Baker remains uncommitted but he is not considering USC. There remains only one uncommitted offer, but he is not an active USC target. The only tackle prospect who can be considered at this time is Oregon commit Fox Crader, who took an official visit to the Trojans this summer. It is likely Josh Henson and Lincoln Riley will evaluate for new offers this season when prospects they are monitoring put out new film.

For the defense

USC holds one commitment at the EDGE position in Kameryn Fountain. The largest remaining target at the position is DC area edge rusher Jaylen Harvey. Harvey took an official visit to USC in June and was blown away by the opportunities that would be at his disposal. Penn State is the favored team in the On3 RPM, but the Trojans are heavily involved.

There is a pair of high profile names on the defensive line for USC fans to stay locked on to. Both are On3 industry five-star prospects in Eddrick Houston and Aydin Breland. Houston took an official visit to USC this summer, a visit that has stuck with him. Ohio State is a major threat though. For Breland, he has taken four official visits but USC has not been one yet. As of right now, his plan is to take an official visit during the season, which will bring his recruiting likely towards the end of the season.

One of the expected announcements coming is linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. Beyond him, there is one name to key in on right now and that is Salem (Va.) four-star Chris Cole.

For the cornerbacks, USC holds three commitments, which leaves a possible addition unknown. From the current offers dished out, there is not a clear target for USC to pursue if they want to add one more.

At the safety position, there are a couple names to monitor. With two commits at the position, adding more is not a necessity. St. John Bosco’s Jason Mitchell remains a possibility as does Georgia commit Peyton Woodyard, who remains a target.
