Nightly Recruiting Briefing: New Michigan State transfer portal target?

In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss a new possible Michigan State target in the transfer portal. We will also discuss the more Spartan recruiting news.
Nigel Glover enters the portal
A new name entered the transfer portal on July 17 in freshman Nigel Glover of Northwestern. Glover enters the portal, exactly a week after the firing of former head coach Pat Fitzgerald. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder was a member of the Northwestern 2023 class, ranking a four-star by the 2023 On3 Industry Rankings . he was ranked the No. 306 overall recruit, the No. 31 linebacker, and the No. 10 recruit in Ohio.
He committed to Northwestern over offers from Washington, Kentucky, Minnesota, Rutgers, Iowa, Pittsburgh, and more. Glover was the highest rated commitment in the Wildcats 2023 class. Michigan and Ohio State both hosted Glover on multiple unofficial visits.
Glover did not hold a Spartan offer out of high school. Sources tell SpartanMag.com that there is Michigan State interest this time around, out of the transfer portal. Glover would retain four-years and immediate eligibility in his transfer, also likely arriving before his new program’s fall camp.
Jason’s take:
Glover would supplement the depth Michigan State linebacker room, which is in need of future reinforcements at the moment. It would be hard to imagine Glover seeing the field and making an impact in the 2023 season, if he were to pick the Spartans. Although, he would provide depth alongside current freshman Jordan Hall, the only linebacker signed in the 2023 class. In the class of 2022, Michigan State also only signed one linebacker in Quavian Carter. Carter has been hampered with injury since arriving in East Lansing, still hoping to crack the playing group. Class of 2021, Ma’a Gaoteote remains in the program, entering his junior season. The Spartans do not hold a linebacker commitment yet in the 2024 class as they will look to sign one to two.
Michigan State will graduate sixth year seniors Aaron Brule and edge rusher/linebacker combo Jacoby Windmon in 2023. Glover would join Hall, Gaoteote, and Carter in supplementing depth in 2024 behind would be returning redshirt seniors Darius Snow and Cal Haladay. Michigan State also added redshirt freshman Aaron Alexander from University of Massachusetts via the transfer portal this off-season.
