Jimbo Fisher: ‘I don’t worry about losing my job’

Jimbo Fisher: ‘I don’t worry about losing my job’

There are a handful of storylines surrounding the Texas A&M Aggies and their head coach Jimbo Fisher as they prepare for the 2023 season. One of the main ones is the job security of Fisher at Texas A&M, and whether or not he will survive this season.

At the 2023 SEC Football Media Day Kickoff, the Aggies head man had a chat with ESP’s Paul Finebaum. And during the conversation, the subject of Fisher’s job security came up, which led to an interesting back and forth between the two and this statement by the Aggies head coach.

“OK. I don’t worry about that. I don’t worry about losing my job,” said Fisher. “I worry about not doing a good job for our players and our fans, and the people on our support staff who count on us every day to keep a job. That’s what motivates me and drives me. I don’t worry about myself. I’ve never worked on myself, whether I had a one-year contract or a 10-year contract. I’m worried about the people who work under us, the players having a great experience and winning, and our fans getting a great program… the rest of that stuff you can’t, you don’t control that.”

Fisher on the outside noise; ‘That’s the world we live in

Fisher is not worried about the outside noise. He is only concerned with the program, the people involved in running it, the players, and the Aggie fans. Outside of that, the Texas A&M headman understands he has no control over what people say, so let them talk. As far as it goes for people in closer proximity to him, such as his family, he does have concern for them on how they’re impacted by the possibility of him losing his job. But Fischer says it’s all a part of the deal of being a college football head coach.

“Yeah, but they understand when they go in; they ain’t gonna listen to it. That’s the world we live in. That’s our world, and you know that when you get this business each and every day. You want to change it? Go win.

Whether or not Fisher will make it through the 2023 season and beyond as the Texas A&M head coach remains to be seen. But what is known is Fisher is not worried about the outside noise. The only thing he’s focused on is having a successful 2023 season.
