How high can Dashawn McBryde go in rankings?

2024 Denham Springs (La.) safety and LSU commit Dashawn McBryde made a huge move up in the recent On300 rankings update. If his senior season pans out, he might not be done moving up, either.

McBryde made a move up from No. 194 overall to No. 63 overall. In addition, he’s now the No. 6 safety in the country. Overall, On3 has him highest out of the rankings services, according to the On3 Industry Comparison. He’s now the highest-rated commitment for the Tigers on On3.

On3 director of scouting Charles Power loves his production, but sees the potential for McBryde to go even higher.

“McBryde was very productive as a junior relative to making plays on the ball. High interception total, which you love to see,” Power said. “I think he has room to improve just as a down to down defender, taking proper angles, playing with physicality. I think as he continues to improve and put everything together could continue to move up. Really excited to see what he does as a senior.”

After an in-depth dive into the safety position, Power said McBryde has that upside that you look for when it comes to a safety prospect.

“We did a thorough audit of the safety position. There are a lot of changes in this safety group,” Power said. “I think Dashawn McBryde separated himself in large part due to the size and athleticism. He’s 6-3, close to 200 pounds, highly-athletic. Tested really well on the camp circuit. I just think has a ton of upside. His upside is as high as any safety in the cycle.”

McBryde is coming off a big junior season with 46 tackles, four tackles for loss, nine interceptions, nine pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two touchdowns on defense. He also was a top performer at LSU Elite Camp in June, which aided in his rise.
