Ohio State is on 2025 wide receiver Phillip Bell’s radar

COLUMBUS — Ohio State won’t skip a beat when it comes to wide receiver recruiting in the 2025 cycle.
The Buckeyes landed the best wide receiver tandem in the 2024 cycle — and they aren’t finished yet there — but looking ahead, the names for 2025 become interesting.
Insert four-star Sacramento (Calif) Bishop Alemany wide receiver Phillip Bell. Bell, the No. 5 wide receiver and No. 29 overall prospect according to On3, was last seen in Huntington Beach, California, competing at the OT7 Championships.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound rising junior had an impressive weekend, all while sporting Ohio State gloves.
“That’s the place to get developed,” he told Lettermen Row. “I feel like that’s every wide receiver’s dream school and that’s the dream for me.”
Bell had his debut Ohio State visit this spring and he continues developing his relationships with the coaching staff. Most notably, it seems that offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach Brian Hartline has already identified Bell as one of the ones to watch.
“We talk week to week,” Bell said. “He tells me to call him every week and we chat it up.”
Bell is hoping to get back to Ohio State soon and the end of July window is certainly enticing for him. Most prospects a cycle behind the main one have a number of questions for coaches and staffers at programs.
Ohio State appears pretty self-explanatory for Bell, however.
“There’s really no question about it, you just get there and everything is answered for you,” he said. “You see what they do to produce receivers, how they develop dudes and send them into the league.
“That’s everything you want right there.”
Bell of course hasn’t spoken with just Hartline. He and head coach Ryan Day remain in contact as much as they can, another early tell on the Buckeyes 2025 wide receiver vision.
“He’s real genuine, I feel like sitting down with him we were just having a real genuine conversation,” Bell said. “It wasn’t too much football either.”
Ohio State isn’t the only school Bell is eyeing.
USC and Tennessee have emerged as early competition for the Buckeyes. The Trojans are the close-to-home program and with recent NFL draftees Drake London and Jordan Addison, the program’s reputation is on an uptick.
As for the Volunteers, it’s the scheme and amount of vertical routes incorporated in the offense.
But for Ohio State, it’s everything. And make no mistake, Phillip Bell will be back on campus soon.
