WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

There was, of course the huge news last night that 4-star WR Joshisa Trader committed. We brought you the breaking story and analysis, so you want to be sure to check that out. Also this morning be sure to check out what Trader’s coach is saying about just what the Canes have landed with his talented prospect.

We also continue our State of The U analysis of recruiting classes with the 2022 class, which was recruited for the most part by Manny Diaz … but with Mario Cristobal getting hired in early December and helping hold together and put the finishing touches on. It was a class that ranked No. 13 in the nation, and a key with this group of second-year players is talent and development. Also don’t miss what center Matt Lee is talking about with fall drills a few weeks away.

In recruiting?

The 2024 recruiting class has seen plenty of prospects’ rankings climb, but few have climbed more than four-star Miami commit Marquise Lightfoot. So we had to ask the simple question to On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power: why has Lightfoot catapulted to a top-50 recruit and a top-three EDGE? Don’t miss that.

Plus CaneSport is breaking down the top 30 Miami players on the roster, and today we’re at No. 18, DL Rueben Bain.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Steve Sarkisian vs Mario Cristobal … Posted by Rpolo

Just read an article about Texas being the clear favorite of winning the Big 12 this year, but a couple of notes caught my mind.

Texas has not won a conference title since 2009, very similar to Miami.

Steve – year 1 went 5 – 7 just like Mario

Steve- year 2 went 8 – 5 with his 5 losses each coming from less than 7 points. Kansas State won the Big 12.

Steve – year 3 the clear favorite to win the Big 12, and he says thr main difference is because these players are not just feeling it but taking action.

I would be happy with a Year 2 performance for Mario and my canes like Steve’s, but I prefer 9 wins.

What say you guys

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“He’s a high-character kid and one of the most freakish athletes you’ll ever see. His athleticism is crazy.”
