Top 100 Edge Kameryn Fountain Remains Firm with USC Pledge

Big-time Atlanta (GA) Washington HS Edge Kameryn Fountain was the first to pull the commitment trigger after the June 2-4 Official Visit weekend.
While we knew Fountain’s interest in USC was legit, prior to his visit we would’ve lost a bet on the timing of his commitment to the Trojans. We figured he’d take all of his official visits first. Coach Roy manning was a primary reason for Fountain’s commitment t and his hard work obviously paid off.
Manning visited Fountain the week before his USC visit.
“It’s a beautiful place out in California and I love the entire coaching staff at USC,” said Fountain. “Most impactful part of the visit was when they had us talk to the professor about our major. I was surprised to learn they were number one in academics.”
Initial interest in USC
We hadn’t seen Fountain since the February Atlanta Under Armour Next Camp until Thursday. WeAreSC hit up Booker T Washington in the heart of the ATL for a summer workout. Washington HS will be 100 years old in 2024.
While it may surprise a lot of folks from the West Coast, the USC brand is fairly strong in Atlanta. Even knowing that, it’s still surprising to hear a kid like Fountain say USC was a top school before even visiting.
“My great grandparents are from down there, so I just wanted to go down there and see it for myself,” said Fountain. “I always had a thing for that school, so I made sure that was one of my top schools. And not many people get that opportunity to get out there, play for that school or even get looked at. So, I just took advantage while I had it and made sure it was my first visit….and last one. It was also my best one.”
Significance of academics
It’s extremely common for guys being recruited to talk about the importance of the education they’ll receive in college, but the reality is most elite athletes are majoring in their sport. The goal with every USC football recruit is to play professionally in the NFL. And it should be in my opinion, but there is a lot of life left after athletes are done playing their sport.
Not sure we’ve come across a USC prospect who values what the university offers after football more than Fountain does.
“On my official visit we talked to the professors and they told me everything I need to do my major,” Fountain said. “I talked to the professor for my electrical engineering major and my education is very important. Like I said, football will end one day and I need something to fall back on. And I don’t want to be an athlete who doesn’t have other plans outside of football.”
The USC Electrical Engineering program is ranked No. 6 in the nation per CollegeFactual.com.
Roy Manning
USC Rush Ends Coach Roy Manning’s had as many significant recruiting wins the past two cycles as any coach. Fountain and Elijah Newby are 2024 prospects committed, but Manning also lured Braylan Shelby and DJ Peevy in 2023.
“That’s that’s a great person and we talk like every week,” Fountain said. “He just checks on me and stuff like that. Making sure I was good in school, makes sure my family’s doing good. My nephew, everybody. Even though they’re on vacation, I’ve talked to Coach Manning and Coach Riley this month.”
Lincoln Riley
“He is just a really good person,” said Fountain. “He’s a down to earth person and has a good personality. But when you get on the field, it is totally different. It’s totally different. It’s a switch and It gets serious….real serious. Coach Riley is another big reason why I committed to USC.”
Los Angeles
Fountain is from the middle of one of the biggest cities in the country, so making the adjustment to L.A. won’t be overly difficult.
“It is a very beautiful place and it is very big everywhere. I’m most definitely looking forward to going back out there before I leave in January. I’ll be at a game this season for sure. Most definitely.”
Role in the USC defense?
“Depending on how much weight I gain, I’d be a defensive end or outside linebacker,” Fountain said. “I feel comfortable playing both, but he sees me as outside Linebacker because my athleticism. So, I can drop back and help in pass coverage.”
Shut down
WeAreSC asked Fountioan if Tennessee or any other schools were still coming last him hard? USC fans will love his reply.
“I’m shut down. I’m not talking to no other coaches. I haven’t been talking to nobody else.”

“Feels like home”
After every USC official visit weekend we heard feedback from the recruits about how it “feels like home.” Obviously that’s vital when trying to convince guys from back East to sign with USC.
“It just feels like home there at USC,” said Fountain. “It is like a real family down there. They made me feel real comfortable and I can just beat myself down there.”
