Miami 2024 target Tye Hylton talks recruiting as commitment decision looms

Oviedo (Fla.) 2024 three-star offensive lineman and Miami priority target Tye Hylton is set to announce his commitment Friday, and while he wants to take a few days to triple-check, he has a good idea of where he wants to end up.
Hylton is considering Miami, Florida, Florida State Penn State and UCF, the first four of which he took official visits to last month. Florida State is listed as the heavy favorite to land Hylton according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but Miami, Florida and Penn State have made strong impressions as well and are still in the race.
He isn’t ready to formally reveal his frontrunner just yet, but he knows his decision will be heavily influenced by his relationships with coaching staffs and his mother’s opinion on different programs. Player development will also be a major factor.
Hylton is the No. 749 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 41 offensive tackle. Miami hasn’t recruited the 6-foot-4, 272-pound prospect across the offensive line and not at one specific position. The Hurricanes have continued pushing for Hylton since his June 9 official visit.
“Those schools have been talking to me pretty frequently,” Hylton said. “I probably hear from (Miami head coach) Mario Cristobal and (offensive line coach Alex) Mirabal like every other day.”
Hylton said his mother did not have a frontrunner and enjoyed all four of his official visits, but they’ve spoken in depth about his looming decision. He wants to take the remaining days to think on his decision.
CaneSport’s Take
It’s felt like Miami has been on the outside looking in at Hylton’s recruitment over the last few months, particularly as Florida and Florida State have pushed for the three-star offensive lineman. But the Hurricanes have held enough of Hylton’s attention to stay in the race and be seriously considered.
His decision comes as Miami continues to pursue offensive line targets in this year’s class after signing five in the 2023 cycle. Offensive tackle Juan Minaya and interior offensive lineman Deryc Plazz both committed earlier this year, but the Hurricanes could still use more help on the interior of the offensive line, including a center.
