Visits to Oregon and USC ‘set the standard’ for 4-star CB Bryce West

Visits to Oregon and USC ‘set the standard’ for 4-star CB Bryce West

Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville four-star cornerback Bryce West recently concluded a long trip to the West Coast. He spent March 15-17 at Oregon before visiting USC from March 18-22.

West will be back on the road next month, since he wants to see Alabama, Colorado, Florida State and Georgia among others. But in the meantime, he is feeling good about the Ducks and the Trojans.

“I can see myself definitely going back there for official visits to both schools,” West told On3. “I have a very strong connection with the coaching staff, with players.”

According to West, his time in Eugene and Los Angeles “set the standard.” That is because the 5-foot-11.5, 175-pound defensive back liked the environments at Oregon and USC and got along with both staffs.

“The players are very talented players, very nice players,” said West, the No. 63 overall prospect and No. 7 cornerback in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. “They encourage each other, first of all. They uplift each other, don’t talk bad about each other. The coaches, it was good vibes being around them, having good conversations with them and my family.”

“It was lovely being down there,” West added about his two visits. “It was different.”

West is very impressed by Oregon and USC’s coaches

For West, the biggest highlight of his trip to Oregon was meeting the Ducks’ staff in-person. He found them to be fun and humble, and enjoyed meeting their families.

Oregon’s facilities also stood out to the four-star, as well as the “good energy” of people across the Ducks’ campus. One of the best conversations he had was with cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin.

“We were talking football and talking about everyday life,” West said. “He’s a great coach. We had a great conversation. He’s gonna keep it real with you. He speaks truth to you. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Watching him coach, he’s got a different type of vibe. He’s doesn’t do every drill that you think you need. He does drills that are going to help you in the game, like press man technique, off the ball, breaking on point.”

At USC, West also talked with multiple coaches. He has numerous recruiters from the Trojans, including defensive backs coach Donte Williams.

Similar to Oregon, West appreciated the care and attention USC’s staff showed him.

“The staff is amazing,” West said. “I talked with them the whole time, joked with them the whole time. It was fun talking with them. They were very involved with my parents, with me. I love the coaching staff. I was just talking to them about anything, at-home stuff, sports stuff.”

Both Ducks head coach Dan Lanning and Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley are involved in West’s recruitment. He has enjoyed getting to know each of them.

“They’re super straightforward, but they hold a lot of energy,” West said. “It’s fun to be around them. They’re very good guys. You can see they produce a lot of talent considering the records they have. When I say straightforward guys, they tell you the real truth. They tell you the ins and outs of the facility. They don’t just lie to keep you around there. They’re gonna tell you what it is and what it’s not.”
