On3 5-Star Countdown: No. 2, WR Jeremiah Smith

On3 has updated its recruiting ranking for the 2024 class after the completion of dozens of offseason camps, as well as events like the Elite 11 Finals and Overtime 7v7 Finals. Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver and Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith is the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2024 On300, jumping up from No. 3 overall in On3’s previous ranking release.

The latest edition of On3’s 2024 rankings features 15 five-star players, up from 11 in the previous update in April. Of those 15 prospects, seven are already committed to college programs, with five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman and defensive lineman Justin Scott the latest to come off the board to Texas A&M and Ohio State, respectively.

The 6-foot-3, 198-pound Smith committed to the Buckeyes in December over the likes of Georgia, Miami, Florida, Florida State and more. While he has remained in Ohio State’s class since, he did take official visits with the Gators, Hurricanes and Bulldogs last month, as well as an unofficial visit to Florida State.

“He did take official visits to Florida, Florida State and Miami in June and remains in contact with other staffs,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote late last month, “but Smith will be very tough to flip from Brian Hartline and Ohio State.”

“Big, skilled receiver with fluidity and savvy for the position. Measured in at 6-foot-3 and around 200 pounds prior to his senior season. Had a breakout 2021 season, helping his Chaminade-Madonna team to a state championship. Turned in several strong performances, including a big state title game. Polished route-runner at this early stage.

… Smooth mover with some technical refinement that allows for separation. Shows good ball skills with his ability to track the football over his shoulder. Also a strong track athlete winning state titles in the 110 meter and 400 meter hurdles as a junior. Can further take advantage of his size by continuing to improve his contested catch skills.”
