South Florida 4-star DB building strong early bond with Miami Hurricanes

South Florida 4-star DB building strong early bond with Miami Hurricanes

During the Miami Hurricanes final 7-on-7 camp of the summer, Miami Central four-star safety Amari Wallace was one of the most impressive athletes on hand, and the Hurricanes and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry took notice.

Throughout the camp, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound defensive back showcased his versatility in the secondary, playing both safety and cornerback, and showed why the Hurricanes are high on the South Florida native early on.

“Our relationship is going good,” Wallace told CaneSport. “I’ll be here in July for the barbecue, so I’m looking forward to having a good time, looking around campus, and seeing what I like. I’m also looking forward to building a relationship with all the players.”

Wallace, who is the No. 172 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking and holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Penn State, and others, is enjoying the early stages of his recruiting process as a legitimate Power Five prospect.

“My recruiting process has been going good,” Wallace said. “I have a few schools that have been hitting me up.”

Among the programs that have contacted Wallace, he says Louisville, Penn State, and Miami have shown the most interest early on.

“I want to know what school can help me the most off the field,” Wallace said. “I want to do business, so academics is also very big for me as well.”

Wallace discusses the Hurricanes and Miami Central connection

When asked with whom he had established the best relationship thus far at Miami, Wallace quickly answered coach Roland Smith, who was his head coach at Miami Central his freshman year before joining the Hurricanes staff last season.

Smith isn’t the only former Rocket currently with the Miami program at the moment, as a handful of former Miami Central athletes and coaches have made their way to Coral Gables, which is something that Wallace loves.

“He (Smith) tells me everything,” Wallace said. “He’s letting me know how everything moves, what things are going to be good in 2025 when I come, and other stuff. Just kind of letting me know what’s coming to Miami.”

CaneSport’s take

Wallace is yet another talented Miami Central athlete that the Hurricanes have shown interest in early on, and it seems to be paying off so far. Despite his youth as a 2025 prospect, Wallace has garnered the attention of some of the top programs in the country, and Miami would love nothing more to keep the talented defensive back home. While Smith may play a substantial role in his recruitment, winning will also be important, as Wallace is excited to see what the Hurricanes can do in the coming season as they look to turn the program around.

“I see they’re trying to bring The U back again,” Wallace added. “That’s all everyone has been saying, and that’s what everyone wants. I see that they’re recruiting good, so they have to keep it up and it’ll happen.”
