Tennessee Basketball: Four-star shooting guard Ahmad Nowell sets commitment date

Tennessee basketball target Ahmad Nowell will announce his college decision on July 23. The four-star shooting guard, who has a final four of Tennessee, Connecticut, Georgia Tech and Kentucky, announced the commitment date on social media on Sunday.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect is the No. 40 overall player in the 2024 class in the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s the No. 10 shooting guard in the No. 2 overall player in the state of Pennsylvania, where he attends Imhotep Institute.
Nowell, a Germantown, Tenn., native, has been a longtime target of the Vols and took an official visit to Tennessee back in March.
“I love their brotherhood over there,” Nowell told On3’s Jack Pilgrim on Friday. “They were really together when I took my visit, it felt like family over there. They’ve got a good coaching staff.”
Tennessee put out new offer this week at Peach Jam
He took an official visits to UConn and Georgia Tech in June and did not take an official visit to Kentucky.
“I’d say I’m an all-around player,” Nowell told On3 last month. “I can rebound, pass, score it; I’m an overall leader, whatever the team needs me to do in order to win. I watch a lot of different guys, the handle like Kyrie (Irving), the shooting like Damien Lillard, and the dog like Jimmy Butler. I’m a natural winner.”
Tennessee this weekend at Peach Jam offered four-star North Carolina point guard Bishop Boswell and continued to make a priority of four-star shooting guard Austin Swartz, arguably the two biggest names on the board for the Vols in 2024.
Boswell was one of On3 national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw’s Peach Jam standouts this week.
“Boswell is one of those guys who simply makes plays,” Shaw wrote, “and that is his appeal. The point guard touched the paint, where he delivered consistent reads. He also knocked down shots at each level. He finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the win.”
Vols prioritizing two top-50 guards in 2024 class
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Bowell is up to No. 50 overall in the On3 ratings, ranked No. 7 among point guards nationally and No. 4 overall in the state of North Carolina. He’s ranked No. 62 nationally in On3 Industry Ranking, where he’s the No. 9 point guard and No. 7 player in North Carolina.
Swartz, the 6-foot-5, 180-pounder out of Cannon School in Concord, N.C., is the No. 28 overall player in the On3 Ratings, is ranked No. 8 among shooting guards and is the No. 1 overall player in the state of North Carolina.
Swartz took an official visit to Tennessee in June and the Vols are currently working to get an official visit scheduled with Boswell.
“I really like their offense,” Swartz said after his visit to Tennessee, “their guards have a lot of freedom and a lot of what they do is based on off-ball movement. I feel like moving without the ball and shooting are two things that I’m maybe the best at. I don’t feel like I have to have the ball in my hands to contribute and so I thought what I saw was a pretty good fit.”
