5-star SF Karter Knox down to 8 options, Kentucky makes the cut

Karter Knox, the talented younger brother of former Kentucky forward Kevin Knox, is beginning to wind down his recruitment.
On Saturday afternoon, Karter told On3’s Joe Tipton that he has trimmed his list of potential options down to just seven college programs and one professional route. Kentucky made the cut, as did Louisville, LSU, Arkansas, Florida State, South Florida, Auburn, and the NBA’s G League Ignite. Knox is considered a five-star recruit, ranking as the No. 6 overall prospect from the class of 2024 per the On3 Industry Ranking. He holds a five-star rating from all four major recruiting services (On3, 247 Sports, Rivals, and ESPN).
Knox has significant connections with both Kentucky and the Wildcats’ in-state rival, Louisville. His older brother Kevin played one season at UK from 2017-18 before being a lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Additionally, while Kevin was with the ‘Cats, he was coached by former assistant Kenny Payne, who is now the head coach of the Cardinals.
Karter visited both schools unofficially this past fall. Kentucky narrowly leads Louisville in the race for the 6-foot-5, 180-pound small forward according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine. UK has a 48.5 percent chance of landing Knox while UL has a 42.5 percent chance.
“I like the fans, you know? The fans are crazy, the coaching staff is nice,” Knox recently told KSR’s Jack Pilgrim of the Wildcats. “It’s just a really good moment (being recruited by them). Kentucky is a really good program. Coach Cal, the coaching staff, everybody. And the fans are crazy.”
Knox is not participating in this weekend’s Nike EYBL session in Memphis due to a family vacation, but he’s been putting on a show throughout the AAU circuit thus far. He leads the EYBL in scoring at 21.2 points per game. Knox is also grabbing 4.5 rebounds per outing while shooting over 53 percent overall from the field.
Karter Knox Scouting Summary
“Karter Knox is a lengthy and explosive wing. His frame is very projectable and already physically developed, and he has broad shoulders with arms that flow down; should add good weight relatively easily once he gets to a college strength and conditioning program. He is a straight-line driver off the bounce. Gets into the paint and violently attacks the rim, playing way above it. He plays well out of the dunker spot, is an apt back door cutter, and attacks the offensive boards. Would like to see him develop the jump shot more, at least become average in the catch and shoot.
The form and release are OK, balance points and trajectory are inconsistent. He is a strong straight-line driver, needs to develop a counter or two if he gets his path cut off. There is a lot of upside defensively. He has great length with quick twitch and explosion. Can switch down a line up and guard fours also the athleticism to run with twos and threes. Will need to continue tightening the mechanics and keeping a consistent motor. Is the younger brother of NBAer Kevin Knox.” — Jamie Shaw, On3 national recruiting analyst
