5-star QB commit DJ Lagway to extend weekend visit at Florida

Five-star Florida Gators quarterback commit DJ Lagway of Willis (Texas) has added one more day to his upcoming unofficial visit to Gainesville, Fla.
The trip, originally expected to run from Friday-Sunday, has been extended into Monday
For Florida, that’s good news for multiple reasons, one of them being that 5-star receiver target Jeremiah Smith, the Ohio State commit from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, plans to visit the Gators on Monday. The two players have become good friends over the past few months.
Florida’s Grill in the Ville recruiting event is Saturday. The Gators begin preseason practice Monday.
“It gives DJ a little bit more time (at Florida) and be able to connect with Jeremiah a little bit,” Lagway’s father, Derek Lagway, told Gators Online. “The main thing is, he wants to see practice.”
Lagway will make the trip with his parents and his younger brother, Jamal, an eight-grader.
In June, Florida added 10 new commitments. Four more recruits have pledged to Billy Napier & Co. in July and as of Thursday evening the Gators had the country’s No. 3 class, trailing only Georgia and Ohio State.
DJ Lagway likes the Florida Gators’ recruiting class thus far
“I think we’ve got a great group of guys right now,” Lagway said. “I think the program is heading in the right direction. I’m really excited to see who else joins the squad.”
Lagway hopes the Gators aren’t done.
He told Gators Online earlier this week he talks often with Smith, along with 4-star defensive lineman LJ McCray and 4-star cornerback Zay Mincey of Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland. And, he is optimistic about Florida’s chances with each.
At the Grill in the Ville event this weekend, most of the uncommitted prospects on hand will be members of the 2025 class. While in town, Lagway plans to do some recruiting.
“They’re supposed to give me a list,” he said.
