5-star Jalen Haralson breaks down recruitment

Jalen Haralson is the No. 7 player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-7 guard averaged 23.4 points, going over 30 six times in 22 games this season for Fishers (IN) High.

“I’m a guard that can score at all three levels,” Haralson told On3. “I can get my teammates involved and defend the other team’s best player. I watch a lot of Jalen Hood-Schifino from Indiana. He is a big guard who can defend and make shots.”

On3 caught up with five-star Jalen Haralson after a recent live viewing at the USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamp to talk recruiting.

Haralson talks recruitment

“I’ve taken visits to Indiana, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State,” Haralson said.

Indiana: “Coach (Mike) Woodson lets his guards rock; they have a lot of freedom. He is a really good coach with an NBA background. They got a really good fanbase around them. It’s a good school. My brother goes there so I know a lot about it.

“They run a lot of ball screens, so I’ll be able to play with the ball in my hands a lot and able to make plays. The way they play will let me be me.”

Michigan State: “When I went on the visit, I got to see how tough coach (Tom) Izzo is. He is tough as nails. He let me know the stuff I need to work on, he doesn’t sugarcoat things for me, and I like that. Their guards are always tough there, and you know coach Izzo will get the best out of his players.”

Michigan: “When I went on my visit there, they compared me to Franz Wagner with the Orlando Magic. They said I’m a big guard who has skills. They showed me how he played and used him, they gave him that freedom, and he’s in the NBA now.”

Ohio State: “I’ve only been to Ohio State once. When I went there, the fans showed me a lot of love. When I talked with coach (Chris) Holtmann, he just kept telling me that I’m a star player and that I’m a priority. I liked that message.”

Purdue: “They’re good every year. Coach (Matt) Painter is a cool dude and easy to talk to when you’re around him. He gets the best out of his players. Their fan base is crazy too. The support system around the program is great too. It’s just a good school to be at.”

In Haralson’s words

“I’m starting to look at my official visits this summer,” Haralson said. “I’ll probably start with the local schools first, Indiana and Purdue. Gonzaga has reached out about taking one. I’d like to get down to Duke. I’ll have two years to fit them all in.

“I want to go somewhere I can be me, have the ball in my hands and the freedom to make plays. I can play off the ball too. The main thing is I want to go and develop and not be limited. I’ll also want to go to a school where I’m comfortable, walking around and enjoying myself.”
