5-star edge Anthony Jones visits Auburn for Big Cat: ‘One of the best visits I’ve been on’
Class of 2026 five-star edge Anthony “Tank” Jones visited Auburn on Saturday for the Tigers’ Big Cat recruiting event.
Jones, who attends St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Ala., was one of several top recruits at the event. And he was very impressed.
“It was great,” he said. “It was probably one of the best visits I’ve been on so far. They just showed a lot of love to my family and took care of us.”
The visit showed Jones something he wanted to see.
“Really, just how they are on a regular day,” he said. “Because I feel like that’s what really means the most to me, the relationships. How they took time out during the day to come talk to me and stuff.”
Jones spent a lot of time with Auburn edge coach Josh Aldridge.
“I love him,” Jones said. “He’s a great guy. He always takes care of me.”
Jones also spent time with several top 2026 recruits. He watched as three of them committed to the Tigers giving Auburn the No. 1-ranked class in the country.
“Oh yeah, they’ve been talking to me,” he said. “(Having the No. 1 class) really just showed that they’re rebuilding. They’re trying to start something good.”
In-state battle brewing for Jones
As for Jones, he is heavily considering joining the Tigers’ class. He has several offers, but is zeroing in on the two in-state SEC schools. Jones said Auburn and Alabama are his top two at this time. His family consists of Alabama fans, but it will not affect his decision.
“It’s close right now (between Auburn and Alabama),” he said. “I just want to play for my state. Really, just that.”
He also is considering LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia.
“Somewhere that takes care of me and takes care of my family, that’s going to get me to the next level and develop me,” Jones said in what he’s look for in a school. “
He does not plan to make a decision anytime soon.
“I’m just going to hold off until my senior year,” he said.
