5-star DB DJ Pickett locks in another in-season visit with Florida Gators

5-star DB DJ Pickett locks in another in-season visit with Florida Gators

One of the nation’s top defensive backs regardless of class is returning to Florida this week.

DJ Pickett, a 2025 five-star safety from Zephyrhills (Fla.) High, tells Gators Online he will be in attendance for Saturday’s game against Charlotte. He was also present for last weekend’s victory over Tennesee but chose not to speak with reporters after the game.

It’s no secret the University of Florida has been a major contender for Pickett dating back to middle school. That is when the first batch of offers came in, including one from UF when Dan Mullen was coach.

Proximity is on the Gators’ side, as Pickett lives just 90 minutes from campus, while the SEC appeal and being able to learn from secondary coach Corey Raymond are highlights as well.

To this point, no school has received more visits than the University of Florida.

“Florida, it’s just the connections I have with them,” Pickett told GO last week. “I’m not really worrying about how they are playing right now. They are playing a lot of freshman right now and I like that. I know they are going to be straight at the end.

“Also, Corey Raymond is my dog, and they are right up the road. My dad had a talk with me and was like, ‘Would you want your family to come watch your games all the time?’ That stuck with me.”

Additional schools of note in Pickett’s recruitment include Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Texas A&M and Oregon. He recently said that Florida, Georgia and Michigan are the schools recruiting him the hardest.

Scouting Report on DJ Pickett

Dynamic, explosive two-way playmaker who looks like one of the top defensive back prospects in the 2025 cycle.

A big-time two-way player as a receiver and defensive back. Has a thin, lean frame at over 6-foot-2 and around 170 pounds. An extremely twitchy athlete who also excels in track and field. Turned in sensational marks in the 100 meters (10.62 seconds) and 200 meters (21.69 seconds) as a sophomore.

A natural playmaker on Friday nights. Pairs his plus athleticism and easy movement skills with high level instincts and ball skills. Has elite range as a deep safety. Reads and jumps routes to make plays on the ball. Doubles as a game-breaking receiver with the ability to take the top off of defenses and come down with acrobatic contested catches. Finished his sophomore season with 43 catches for 886 yards and 12 touchdowns in addition to picking off four passes.

Ranked as a safety early on, but could be a legitimate high-end cornerback prospect or even play some offense in college. A bit for the cycle, with a May birthday. Will need to continue adding good mass to his leaner frame.

Stay tuned to Gators Online.
