5-star 2026 OT Jackson Cantwell talks two-day visit to Oregon
Nixa (Mo.) High On3 Industry five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell spent two days at Oregon this week ahead of Nike Nationals for Track and Field.
The blue-chipper gives On3 the latest on his experience.
“A lot of good takeaways,” Cantwell began. “I figured out Coach (A’lique) Terry is a very good ball coach. Knows a lot about the game. The GAs (graduate assistants) are really good. A lot of knowledge in there.
“Coach (Dan) Lanning is a very genuine guy. Like him a lot. And the program feels like it’s going to be successful.”
How Oregon stacks up with the other elites
Tabbed by On3 and the On3 Industry as the nation’s No. 2 offensive tackle and No. 4 prospect overall, the 6-foot-7 1/2, 305-pound Cantwell has made visits to many of the nation’s top programs from coast to coast.
“(Oregon) seems a lot more invested than a lot of other programs,” Cantwell said. “I can tell it’s detail-oriented as well. They put a lot of effort into making the minor details very good and all the facilities. They take a lot of stuff very serious there. That separates them a lot.
“I have that 10 to 12 deep group of schools that have been there for me and I’d say they’re definitely in there. I feel they’re legit. I like a lot of stuff about them and they can stay in it long term.”
Cantwell will play two sports in college
Cantwell is making a football decision but the elite shot put and discus thrower will also participate in that at the school of his choice.
“They have guys doing (both),” Cantwell said of Oregon. “It definitely seems like something that would be able to be done there.
“Oregon track is very good compared to others in the country. One of the most funded track programs in the country. The throws coach (Brian Blutreich) had a good year and if I went to Oregon they’d make me a better thrower and do that for sure.”
